Besides the bruising, the biggest piece of evidence NASA didn't believe Grissom blew the hatch is he flew in Gemini and continued into Apollo, where he died. They simply wouldn't have kept him if they thought he'd panicked. He'd have quietly retired. I read somewhere that in the book, Humperdink simply made up that she was related to royalty of some obscure or made up country. Disappointing. I was 14 and it had been so hyped that I just didn't see what was so great. It was OK, but I'd seen Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. The lost dog story with alien substitute didn't really resonate. York's final speech in Fort Apache and the ending narration of "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" kind of explain it. Essentially both pretty much say the cavalry is the real main character. The individual soldiers are interchangeable, but the regiment goes on. If a couple of names get mixed up, that's not the important part. Well, it's most likely because Hollywood writers aren't historians. However, they mentioned Yorke was a captain during the Shenandoah campaign of 1864. View all replies >
