Who? The scare mongers in the US or the scare mongers in Europe? I cringe every time someone opens a thread with: "Am I the only one that..." I think surreal, symbolic, stylized or over the top movies fit that comparison. E.g.: Eraserhead, The Seventh Seal, Last Year at Marienbad and Mandy. Movies from directors with a unique style E.g.: 71 Fragmente einer Chronologie des Zufalls, Annie Hall, Dogville Good old silent movies probably too, just because most plebs can't handle old movies. E.g.: Cabinet of Dr. Caligary, Faust Recently I have the feeling, at least for horror fans the A24 style is divisive Hereditary, It comes at Night, The Vvitch,... Godfather 10 Goodfellas 9 >Godfather painted them as classy aristocrats It was one of the themes of the movie. They did a hit on Don C., because his way of doing things became antiquated. Selling drugs on the street was the new big thing. I think both movies are romanticizing the mobster life. Godfather slightly more. The romanticizing is done by leaving things out and not by making things up in the most part. Which is ok, both movies didn't go out to portray the realism of the crimes, they had different focus areas. Watch Gomorra, the movie and the show for a much more authentic way of showing organized crime in real life. >but she'd always cover my eyes when it came to female nudity For me it was the other way around. But I grew up in Western Europe and people here mostly don't think nudity is evil. Gore on the other hand was a big scary thing here in the 90s. Media painted it as the biggest danger to society. I personally love gore and nudity in horror movies since it symbolizes the most basic principles: Eros & Thanatos / Life & Death. His performance was really great. Not Hopkins or Nicholson level for me but still great. View all replies >
