I think Gorman was at fault for the processor scene. Ripley and Burke had explained to him how dangerous firing in there was but Gorman didn't relay the severity of the situation to the marines. Gorman mentioned when briefing the marines that Ripley's report was on a file and that they should all look at it, but a source i read somewhere (can't remember where) said that off screen most marines chose not to read it. If they had, the likes of Ferro would have known to check the dropship for the alien. But like most the other marines, she didn't believe Ripley's story. In fact the only one what that was mentioned to have read it was Hicks. Which brings me to my next opinon. I have to disagree when you say Hicks wasn't the take charge type. I know he seemed to step back and let Ripley take control of the things but i think that was because he trusted her. I think out of all the marines, he was the only one who kept an open mind with her story. Like i said, he had read her report so when they got to LV426 and he saw the holes made from the acid, maybe he started to realise that there was some truth in her story. And when the shit really hit the fan and he knew she was telling the truth, i think he allowed her to take control because she had been in this situation before and survived. And lastly, yes Burke was an idiot, but i have to have some repspect for Gorman. Yes he was a inexperienced idiot, but once he woke up and to stock of the situation, he didn't revert back to his annoying self. Instead, by this point he had realised that his decisions had lead to the deaths of most the marines, and thus he was not cut out to be in command. On top of that he had lost all respect of his unit (not that he had much in the first place) so it seemed right that he allowed Hicks to continue taking charge of the situation. Yeah I think he was counting on Ripley to help him out at the mention of money, but it back fired big time. He would have gotten extremely worried that his plan would be foiled when Ripley spoke to the marines about his treason that he had to act fast and shut her up before she could say anything, which is when he must have thought of the face hugger plan. If the marines hadn't have intervened and saved both her and newt, Burke would have killed two birds with one stone. He would have silenced Ripley and had her impregnated her with an embro, then once on the Sulaco, as Ripley told the marines, he would have tampered with their cryotubes and sent them off into space. If she hadn't have said anything, the fire power the marines were using would have resulted in an explosion and wiped them all out. Weyland, Burke in particular, was the one responsible for the death of the marines. He sought out Gorman to over see the mission, knowing that he was incompetent and lacked experience. Burke was banking on Gorman panicing and putting their lives in danger. That way he had more of a chance of getting specimens back to Weyland. Ahhhhhhhhh i applaude thee. I never thought of it like that, but it would actually make sense that the bug hunt would just be a hunt that turned out to be nothing. Would explain why the marines were so discouraged about the idea. when i first saw this movie, i first thought the new British PM was in on it because it looked like him closing the doors. i can only think that it was people involved in the attack that closed them. I sorry but after reading this, i feel the need to point this out. Bearing in mind i love America, but for you to say that because it's an American movie made by an American Company it's primary target therefore audience would be Americans, it's a load of rubbish. This movie isn't all about America. It's audience is a far wider target than that. Majority of this film though produce by an "American Company" was mainly filmed in British locations as well as being filmed in Bulgaria. The cast are from all corners of the world, from America, to the uk, to Australia and Israel. The hero Gerard Butler is Scottish for goodness sake. So this may come as a "surprise" to you but it's not all about Americans. View all replies >
