Simmons seemed to catch all the blame for the tower going wrong. Even though it was Duncan who pushed him into making cuts to the electrical budget, and seemed to cut corners elsewhere in the building ("Where did you save the other four million in Doug's original budget?"). Roberts later pointed out to Duncan the lack of firestops in the ducts, no fire doors in the corridors and nonworking sprinklers. All of those were out of Simmons's responsibility. I went to school with a blind man who could recognize if someone he knew was nearby, based on the sounds of their footsteps and breathing. It was damn near impossible to sneak by him. It's a proven fact that blind people, especially those who were blind since birth, have a more finely tuned sense of hearing. When you can't see, you need to rely on your other senses more to survive and get you through the day, so your brain adapts to better accommodate those remaining senses. Studies have been done to show that blind people have a more active auditory cortex (the part of the brain that processes hearing) than sighted people. Not "superhuman", just better adapted. How is it "liberal propaganda"? Wearing a mask wasn't even a partisan issue until reactionaries made it one. If you think kids' shows have "become" political, you obviously haven't been paying attention. I could point out a number of examples of kids' cartoons from the 70s and 80s that had episodes with political messages. Seeing as how video games based on movies were all the rage back in the 90s, I wouldn't be surprised if they were originally planning to release a game based on The Rock. I could see the fire trap scene being made into a level. I definitely agree. Based on the some of the fashions and the cinematography, and also the way people in the film hype up the Boeing 707 like it's some amazing new plane (when it had its first commercial flight in 1958), it almost seems as if they filmed this in 1960 and left it in a vault for ten years before finally releasing it. In the era of "New Hollywood" movies like Bullitt (1968), Bonnie and Clyde (1967) and The Graduate (1967), Airport somehow looks and feels "older" than those films that came out two or three years prior. But the movie was a success and spurred the disaster genre of the 1970s, so I can't completely fault it. "People who like what I don't like should be killed." Have you considered psychiatric help? Funnily enough, it's from a real movie that Darlanne Fluegel was in, "Once Upon a Time in America" (1984). She's in the very first scene. For some reason though, the dialogue was dubbed and changed. I guess they could only use the film footage but not the audio. View all replies >
