OP there has been a huge outrage about race swapping characters. Most of the content being made stars predominating white leads. So studios are doing reinterpretations of IPs race swapping certain characters. It doesn't erase the original, in fact, it puts the spotlight on it. I've seen more people go watch Interview With The Vampire movie & read the book thanks to the tv show. What folks try to explain is....if the character's culture isn't tied to their race, it can be changed. They did an open casting call and the story goes... she was cast because she had all the qualities they were looking for. She just wasn't white. I haven't seen the movie yet but I wish they had made this into an original story. I mean we just had the TV show Siren that had mermaids of all different ethnicities. She could have been one of Ariel's sisters or they could have adapted an African story. I get why they were disappointed but I think the outrage went too far. Especially coming from adult men. They were expecting real life bimbo fap material but the studio prioritized talent. However Halle is far from ugly. If you watch trailer reactions from kids of all races, they had no problems with her race. We already had a book adaptation. It wasn't perfect but the movie was still decent. I like that Rolin didn't want to redo the movie all over again. He wanted to do a different take. It's nowhere near the trainweck that was Queen of the Damned though. We have had multiple versions of Dracula, Sense & Sensibility, Romeo & Juliet. Tons of books & plays have been reworked & remodernize for the era it's in. I give it 15 to 20 years, somebody is gonna redo Twilight. Listen I get the purist is mad & wanted the book version but y'all forget..... Anne sold the rights... that means....the creatives could whatever they wanted. Whether we like it or not. I think Anne kinda got left behind during the vampire book boom. She dropped the ball & Laurell K Hamilton, Tanya Huff & Nancy A. Collins picked it up and ran with it. After reading these series & other vamps books, I found that I prefer my vamps to have a bit more fun and less depressing. No they originally can't have sex. However.... I heard in the last couple of books they can. Something about a doctor helping them with that problem. Biting was used as a metaphor for sex. In the show, I think they used sex to display that they are in a relationship in every sense of the word. You really feel very passionate about this. Huh? At the end of the day, this adaptation doesn't erase the book. Actually what it has done is bring more attention to it. I've seen more people going to get the book to read. I originally was not okay with the changes. Until I watched the first episode and I loved it. I don't want another rehash of the movie. The movie was good and a close adaptation but their relationship had them like roommates. I don't know about you, but I've never seen a straight man stalk another man begging him to be his companion. I've seen gay men do that and I've straight men stalk women. I will say I'm happy it's not like Queer as Folk although I watched that too back in the day. That's not the Vampire Chronicles. It's sensual not graphically sexual. *Until to you get to Vampire Armand* but that's another story. Who's jim? Let me in on the joke. LOL! OP wanted an answer from a women's perspective. Me bringing up boy love lets him know just how popular M/M is with the feminine audience. You might not think you need to pay attention but I say you should. A lot of y'all daughters & wives are reading & watching this stuff just saying. I didn't say you had to go seek it out. I noticed men get really offensive when it comes to homosexuality. Why? The way some of y'all act you would think, it's a new thing considering men been fucking men since Roman times. Maybe even earlier than that. As long as it's legal consenting adults and not children, do you. Woman here..... It depends on the men and the type of kiss. Interview with the Vampire tv show, I find the actors very hot together. The love scene they had very sensual. Usually I find I want to be in the middle or want to be the object of their affection. I'm straight so watching two chicks kiss does nothing for me. Doesn't make me uncomfortable tho. I don't think men have been paying attention but M/M romance been booming among women. In erotica/romance, manga/webtoons and Asian dramas. It's a genre called boy love. Thailand in particular been making boy love dramas and they are a hit. correct. This version, they do have sex. However.... if you are expecting Queer as Folk, you will be disappointed. They don't focus on sex and they only have like 2 scenes throughout 7 episodes. It's very sensual & tastefully done. Let me tell you, I was originally not okay when I heard of all these changes. I'm like why not continue the movie. Do Vampire Lestat. I was even disappointed in casting. I went into this like I gonna hate it and yet I was curious to how this was gonna work. I haven't been that spellbound by an pilot since Walking Dead. I haven't read the books since my teens so it's been years......but while I liked them and some of the characters, the series could be quite boring. I'm not deep into Theology so the discussions about religions & God has never been my thing. So the show has to be entertaining and be more about old vamps arguing all the time. Sam & Jacob stepped up and delivered. Their chemistry blows Brad & Tom's out of the water. I guess it would considering they had Tom & Brad play like roommates instead of lovers. I was okay with the aging up of Claudia but I wasn't sure about the actress in the beginning at first. Ep. 6 is when I finally got on board with her and her evolution in Ep 7. she killed it. The deconstruction of the Interview, I would have never thought of it. The fact that Rolin brought in Playwrights to help with the script. The flow of the dialogue....... the quotes..... while incorporating Anne's words, I loved it. What I will say about the changes, they keep me guessing and I like that I don't know what's coming or what's been changed. The Armand change... I'm really curious about how this will go. I get it. The original book is a classic but it was also written in a different point in time from an author who was in a different mind set then and the landscape is different today. She is different. A lot of older books is being re-imagined and modernized for today's audience. What straight man you know will stalk another man, begging him to be his companion? Dracula mostly went after women because he was hetero. Lestat is nondiscriminating. 2022 and people still thinking these two were just roommates. I haven't read the last 3 books but apparently they can have sex now. A doctor figured out a way to help them. In the last book Louis agrees to become Lestat's consort. So they are a couple. yeah, I don't believe this. So if they fired him for bullying then what was the excuse for getting rid of the others. His reason for why he left made more sense. I don't believe David would continue being friends with him if he bullied him. Unless, they talked it out. Jenn is a basic white chick that gave other basic white chicks hope, when she landed Brad. This was peak Brad so he was the hottest thing at the time. She's happy getting tan, getting high and hangin out. Now that might be cool for some people but if you are a hustler, folks like her will get boring real quick. I don't think she has anything done to her face. It looks the same to me. You keep hearing about it because its so relatable to everyday women. A lot of women took it personally that Brad chose Angie. She is everything they hate & envy. Yeah Rain had to compete with pretty boys. He ended up establishing the beast boy look. Guys that were very masculine & had abs like the group 2pm. These days Rain is following the flower boy look with the pale skin. I'm not a fan. Porkys- the Principal's office scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbedV0cPajg I was watching adults movies at that age. I was mature for my age. I'm a keep it real, most horror movies are R rated. So just try to find those that have no sex in it. The Halloween Tree, mr boogedy & Bride of mr boogedy (on Disney plus & prime), Monster squad, Casper, Gremlins The Witches- but this might be scary Monster High movies maybe the original IT (90') poltergeist Beetlejuice Addams Family old & new movies did you not see thor call the hammer while talking to his mother. He took it with him to the future. Capt can use the hammer cause he was now worthy of it. Odin put a chant on it that whomever is worthy can weld the hammer. it's not about the powers. it's about the ideals. Sam embodies the same ideals as Capt. It's why Steve was chosen in the first place. I think Bucky might think he doesn't deserve the mantle due to what happened to him. He's still somewhat haunted. So we are going to ignore the many times whites folks have been vocal about excluding black folks from many things throughout the centuries... Really..... Since we are talking about MODERN day lets focus on ACADEMY AWARD WINNER, RIDLEY SCOTT and a little movie called GODS OF EGYPT. EGYPT....... A country that is located in the continent of AFRICA....... AFRICA...... the continent were the children of the sun live.....whom....are DARK SKINNED &/or have sun kissed skin. When asked why his leads are white with the exception of Chadwick.... he said... the studio wouldn't finance the movie if he didn't have any bankable stars. THIS MAN KNEW IT WAS WRONG!!!! but because he wanted to make this film.... he did it anyway. Shit like this, is why people like Robert Townsend, Spike Lee, Tyler Perry, Jordan Peele, & Issa Rae are creating their stories. Then when we complain, we're told to create our own stuff, when we do, we have comments like these. You can't exclude us and then get mad when the shoe is on the other foot. Kevin Smith did the same thing. He said he didn't see any stories that represent him so he create his own. He's been very vocal about this and I've never seen anybody come for him about his white leads. Its always about how his movies suck. See the genres you posted. That's what's missing, VARIETY!!!! No matter what was popular at the time, you always had other artist or genres poppin as well. Music was fine until 2008 and then it all went to hell. We have too many one hit wonders & gimmicks over staying their welcome. By the time I graduate HS, my taste in music started changing anyway. I got into smooth Jazz, lounge, house & chill. I started getting into K-pop around 2009 and then J-rock and never looked back. I pretty much stick to 80s, 90s & early 2000s.
