only because i've seen the movie 3 times i can help. the father kept a eye outside, the mother helped find medicine, the daughter was obviously put in charge of the small boy. he kept running away from her. the mother SHOULD have been at the back of the parade.
google people dying in silo's. it happens. quicksand isn't as bad as movies show.
west questioned daddy about judy and he said she's a step daughter. also in the 1st couple of shows in the 60's dr. smith was a really bad man. than they turned him into a woosy.
this is why I love this plot. they gave us just enough but not enough to have plot holes because we don't know whats going on 100miles down the road and what they have or havent tried in the past.

everything you mentioned is not a plothole. its just people doing things you dont agree with.
