CFBL is inspiration, that should be clear. I went into the theater without much more knowledge of the story than that. I was kind of hoping it would take that iconic image of the creature walking away with the girl and we get to see the rest of the story -- and so we do, in a strange sort of continuation of the story. The story continuation soured quickly with a few side plots that added nada to the story, save for some political string pulls at SJW ideas. Sure fine whatever, but maybe make them integral to the story. Overall story was immature and basic. Really. College freshman trying but not really pulling it off. No break through moments, violence and loud sounds to wake up the audience lulled into a dream like state, ie asleep. Pointless Russians, really, why, what did they serve to the plot, other than some gross violent moment near the end - ugh. Didn't like it, check the time 3 times to see if we were getting close to the end, was disappointed 2 times... DVD at best - Oscar really needs to shape up and stop watering down the noms -- see what i did there. I get it, from you post, that someone should run "Star Wars", but why or better yet, WHY, was it Disney? The whole ABC/DISNEY/themepark/family goodness/squeaky clean-run amoke vibe is just terrible. StarWars is a visceral adventure serious series that is somehow still safe while running the edge boundries of reality/adult-hood. That is not Disney. Disney is fantasy fairy tale kid-safe, as in what universe could this happen type tripe. Sure, I get it - the two are seriously close to one another, but at the same time they are different. Cinderalla vs Winnie the Pooh. Fake fantasy vs imagination fantasy. Sure I'm an XY, and so I disregard XX fantasy, but it's different and to be fair I enjoyed the Snowman movie and Cinderalla, and SnowWhite, but they are for kids, like little kids. Where am I going, i got lost, other than to say What was he thinking, surely in all of Hollywood, with all of it's money, he could have found someone better than Disney to carry on his torch. While we bashed him over the prequals, and loooking back they were good / bad in all the ways, the Disney move is a hard one to swallow. It wasn't apparent at first, but now, is looking like a no-way-out situation, as in we-are-f'd. This trilogy is dead, that there is little doubt. But remakes happen all the time and new stories can be told. I just don't expect the Force or Skywalkers to be part of them. RIP "I know its super lazy writing, but thats the point. Its soooo stupid and dumb, it HAS to be deliberate." You are giving credit to stupidity that is not warranted. As in "stupid and dumb" is smart enough to be deliberate, in terms of writing and story. Nope, not buying it. Stupid and dumb being deliberate is evil and sociopathic. right, shallow feminism at that - for kids and nit wits. this isn't the only movie with feminist themes, plenty out there probably, the Edge of Tomorrow, Alien(s), GI Jane for gods sakes, are all better feminist type stories that have and build strong female characters. Hell I could probably argue more growth, feminist wise, in Frozen than the TLJ. TLJ is a charicature of feminism, a fake, glossy image that turned out to be trash no one wants to buy. Rey could have been a badass, but she simply isn't. Finn could have been a great character - a stormtrooper that crossed sides and maybe grew, rose, fought, and a person of color no less, but we got nothing but a joke of a side character. I could go on, but yeah, it is terribly pandering in the case of TLJ. Disney failed to realize the audience for SW is not just 8 year old girls. View all replies >
