Ed was hardly Charlie or Amy's best friend.
I don't think it's as awful as the last two seasons, or Discovery as a whole. The music was a high point, even if it was fan-service. They're continuing with the horrible set lighting - everything super dark except for the blinding/glaring instruments. And, I could do without the unnecessary swearing. Foul language has no place in Star Trek.
Guy who played Kirk was awful. Looked and acted nothing like him.

So, if these are really Picard's childhood memories, where the hell is his brother Robert? Just like they never bother to mention Lal or Lore from Data's past, seems they've brushed aside Robert as well.

Another one is that the Politburo does not get up and clap at Rocky's speech at the end of the fight. This time, the Gorbachev character abruptly stands up from his chair and they all just leave the arena.
