There is one scene, after the actress who played Kyra came back after a long absence everyone kept saying to her "Where've you been?" Roseanne did the exact same thing when the original becky returned at the beginning of Season 8 of Roseanne with everyone saying the same line.

Agreed, Amy Adams all the way. Kid looks like she could be her baby sister or even her daughter.
They've already announced the family plot-line is no longer cannon.
That's not in the novella. In the novella, he was picking flowers and saw a strange but interesting flower and picked it and brought it into the church, it later turned black and after that the murders began. In the movie it's completely ignored and just says they didn't know and maybe he didn't know either.
