Qualification based on continents are archaic and should be removed. It should be more open to all qualification. Currently most nations outside S. America, Europe can't make it. He was never funny. He was always an overgrown man-child who was pathetic in his supposed "comedy". None of his movies were funny, his SNL bits were tolerable because they were short. In general, he was not good but lucked out Very much what I was thinking and the parallels with other nations are the same such as Afghanistan or Iran or China etc. People don't want to live like that with sham elections and no freedoms. If anything a human mind likes it is freedom. Especially when it exists close by you can run off to or become yourselves. Sure, on the face of it, everyone will blast us and condemn us but give them a visa they will happily run off to come here. But in reality they want to just live and be happy. They will have diff norms and customs and want to protect their women in their own cultural way but they want freedom and a voice above all. But because they are powerless everyone is waiting for some magical regime change or some spark someone else leads to just join in and "ride the wave" to speak. Same in Russia. And if nukes are used, retaliation will basically ensure humanity is doomed. We need brains to work together to solve global climate crisis and help people like Pres. Biden, British PM, French President, German Chancellor etc. to take the world forward. It was very poorly handled. We didn't even get to see much action except a quick 5s shove of one or two guys and boom suddenly the 5 large linebackers are inside and she is somehow locking them up. It reminded me of Batgirl and Supergirl TV shows where puny Batgirl beat up several 250lb 6'2" thugs easily as did Supergirl's sister. These take you out the zone while watching because your bs meter hits 10 rightaway and is jarring. Women are indeed strong and powerful but in their own way and when they play to their strengths. There are also many physically strong women who can likely put a good fight against many guys or maybe win but they do look beefy, bulky (but not like Equalizers Queen Latifah who seems to have equalized too many donuts) and fit that part. Also, as a guy I would love for strong scenes done well with women action like say Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King where Eowyn takes hits but comes back to take out the Nazgul. Not just women, but many guys also cheered for that scene because it was done so well and believably. She took advantage of the hobbit stabbing the witch king and it was teamwork and she was injured too and came back. Now she didn't parkour jump around or do something beyond the realm of her physical strength boundary but actually just stabbed him which is all it required. Why can't they do things like that now? I'm all for women to be shown strong and that is how I want to see it. Maybe they use their wiles and their natural traits to overcome foes and work as a team. This LotR Galadriel is goofy, unlikeable and needlessly rude and bratty and goes alone. That is not what LotR is about. It starts off a "Fellowship..." which mean teamwork. That is 100% missing in favor of showing some uber woman who does acrobatics to defeat a cave troll solo (after THEY basically went to the troll's home) and discards everyone in that valar ship, jumps off to swim 1000s of miles (lol) and gets some raft people killed and bosses all. Unlikely. America is a very diverse nation today and the greatest nation on earth which attracts people, legally and illegally, from every part of the world. All this means, everyone is using the freedoms in this nation and is super sensitive to every little slight against them/their community. All this means, in order to not piss off a community, you can no longer have the enemy as Russians, Chinese, Mexicans, Indians, Saudis, Middle Easterners, East Europeans, Africans etc. Basically enemies have to be hidden/not shown or nobodies with no flag, no country, nothing and just cartoony fodder from make-believe places. The movies in the other countries might depict America as an evil bad guy but we have moved past that. So it is quite unlikely you will find a movie where the main antagonist is say Chinese or Russian today. That's exactly what I thought. The fact that she pretended to be a man to break free of those norms was done in an endearing way and highlighted her being a woman will skills more. She also wasn't uber woman and did take hits and fall down hurt too. When she said "I am no man", the entire theater clapped. Men and women. Because when you write a great character everyone claps. Well put. I feel the same. Chars natural strengths should be highlighted. Above all, LotR is about TEAMWORK. It's completely missing here. That is what made it great. Even the tiny Hobbits can be heroes by being themselves and trying their best and working together. No single person was the lone savior always. Here the women are being shown against what we normally see or expect and come off wrong imo. I think the visuals are well done. Galadriel casting is not the best but not terrible. She's not got that grace nor ferocity that Cate had. I was truly terrified when she was near the ring and transformed.. she's too arrogant and solo and a brat. Doesn't listen to anyone and seems to be Ms know it all and do it all while guys around her have been neutered in an effort to make her look more ferocious. I think they should've gone with the quiet power Cate espoused well. You could feel that she's truly terrifying. Her dialogs are too cringey. In fact all dialogs are cringey as they're trying to be too epic. With random Confucius say type Chinese wisdoms which are over done and don't fit well. Like the silly where sunlight fears to tread and one more from ep 2. The chars are overall putting in their best though. Elrond seems to be growing on me. He's no Hugo Weaving but he's good. The dwarves were alright. Overall I'm not too sure I like the direction yet but it's got great production quality and visuals. As a fantasy show it is really nice but atm is failing as LotR. They need to add teamwork to it. That's what was amazing there. No solo heroes. Good banter and jokes and everyone had their strengths without breaking social norms. Even the girl Eowyn was great while being demure and feminine. This made her slaying of Nazgul so epic. Becauee it wasn't forced but felt like it belonged there. She took hits and fell but rose and did her part and then others chipped in. That's reality. So I hope they stick to what is normal. LotR had that. I hope they make it memorable instead of trying to force it to be and failing Yes. Long established English pronouns should not be changed. Look, I'm a liberal Democrat and I strongly support all rights for them but I'm opposed to changing established language when new terms can be invented. Also I can understand someone making a request but it's up to me to accept that or not for an establish language grammar. They is plural, not singular. What if I want people to call me "your highness" or just "lord", would that be ok and respected and others have to change and call me that always because why should someone else define for me? I think both sides should understand this is a shared world and one shouldn't trump the other here. They deserve full rights but they shouldn't force people to accept changes to pronouns and biological established terms. There's medical sex/gender which is binary and then there's what you prefer but science always should trump other preferences since that is the ultimate truth A fetus is not a baby. It's like claiming ground wheat flour is a cake. We have science and we go by science. If you don't accept science, then there's nothing mutual common ground here. Fetal viability is when a consideration is made for the "baby" which is around 5months (long enough for the woman to consider aborting) and abortions should be possible and available till fetal viability. You can't take a 2 week old blastocyst or embryo and call it a baby. It's frankly asinine. Again, slavery is illegal. We now are a better society so per today's laws you can't have slavery. Re. an adults seeking professional help and doctors telling them what to do - it is true and happens daily. You may not like it but it is none of your business if they want to take sex change or drugs or whatnot. It is indeed like you cutting off your leg. You're responsible for your own actions. Of course, we can try to stop you from this folly by giving our advice but ultimately you can ignore it and we'll ignore you. it's like homeless people doing drugs or sleeping and peeing on the street or doing something crazy like hitting their head on the wall. Do you interfere? "If you think you are a woman trapped in a man’s body, you need to seek professional help because you are not living in reality" And what if the professional prescribes some gender therapy or sex change or whatever they medical doctors decide for a consenting adult? I can maybe debate for kids but for adults, how is it your decision here and not theirs? Re. abortion, fetus is not a baby. You may not accept something because you think it is wrong and evil despite being legal. Then if this is fine what if someone else wants the opposite on another topic? The ques is who determines a law is bad? While it is true laws change to reflect society, the idea is society is improving for the better as we mature more. Slavery, alcohol, evolution laws are all changed for the better. Similarly abortion too but we have regressed now. Re. my comment, I was referring really to abortion. It's a doctor issue. Gender therapy and all that is something I'm not in favor of for children. Yes and you have the freedom to protest that, at least in free and fair first world nations. If doctors determine it is safe (abortion or these) then it's something the govt should allow listening to experts in science and that's the law. If legal and some family wants to get it done, it's their choice and right. None of our business. That's a good analogy and I agree But that's my core point. Both sides should not distort and force others to accept their view. And the view is as determined medically. You might want to call your grade A and that is fine. However you cannot force others to call a C an A. Similarly if they want to call their C an A, it doesn't affect you and you just ignore them. Obviously unless they use it to get over you in things unfairly. Then it's fine to protest that. E.g. athletes in sports These are complex topics imo and not simple black and white. This isn't a "left or right" issue. Only the right is screaming it and lumping it as a left issue to obviously create division and secure votes from ignorant voters. There are gay and trans and other people on left and right wings of society. The problem is instead of letting people live how they want, the right only wants people to live their way and cancel out anything else that some of them don't ascribe to (e.g. abortion becoming illegal in many states). They themselves will pay the penalty for it in time. There's a vocal minority who are overdoing the PC stuff and such stuff and politicians are taking advantage of this topic and staying in power. This is a flawed analogy. Felonies are felonies, regardless of which side commits it because both sides have agreed to live in a society with these ground rules. If a society then says gay marriage is legal and abortion is legal, then both sides should accept it or petition their govt to change it. So you can't make your statements that way. Not if they don't follow that 1+1=3 and if it doesn't impact me. This analogy is flawed. The better analogy is - if someone gets a C at an exam, will you help them study and get an A or just go about your business? The point is for both sides. i.e. if people want to have marriages or abortions or call themselves whatever, it is their choice and I am fine with it. But if they want to dictate that someone else call them new terms or change existing terms, then that is wrong as well. (the same 1+1=3) Essentially people should ignore what they don't like instead of barging in and trying to get others to change for them. (both sides) Ok. That's a fair point. Changing long established pronouns should not be allowed. My point would apply to both sides now. Let them live how they want. And they should not impose changes either. Do you think that's fair then? That's the question since dawn of human consciousness. The answer is "I think therefore I am". This answers the ques that you do exist in a reality and are self aware. Because for something to ask if it exists, means it must exist in the first place to ask that question and usage of "am I" in the question means self awareness aka sentience. Thus if Colossus is asking about its safety then it is self aware and exists too. I agree with the original poster. The human mind cannot imagine some things especially at super high scales. So for those things you need to be shown those things to get a visual clue. Plus it's more fun since the build up lead to something spectacular in its devastation but didn't deliver. The Nicholas cage movie Knowing delivered at the end
