No, Dan Castellaneta does the voice of Gil but it's been stated by the creators that the character is definitely inspired by Lemmon in this film.
I think it more or less means "It is what it is." No bullshit, no talking around it, be straight with me. At one point one character even says "It is what it is."
He does more things like that in the comics. Plus he has free will. If he doesn't want to do something or tell us the secrets of the universe he won't.

Agree OP. All this kid has known is a post apocalyptic, kill or be killed world. He should be the cold one with his dad perhaps displaying some sense of old world compassion but it's the other way around. The way the kid behaved kind of ruined the film for me. That and the uninspired directing.

You're right about Empire. It's more character driven, there's no big space battle at the end, our guys are all in bad shape at the end of the film. Again, it's people whose primary goal was to tell a good story.
Thank you. There's a reason ToD gets talked about as much, if not more, than Raiders and the "play it safe" The Last Crusade (a fine film on it's own but...c'mon). It is simply astounding this film exists.
Yes, it is a prequel. But most movie goers at the time didn't know that and even if they did a second entry in a film saga, prequel or not, would still be subject to the same demands for a bigger, more expansive film.
Correct. I love Batman 89 but BvS was the first time I thought "I'm actually seeing the Batman from the comics on screen for the first time." Aside from the incidental killing (which I know will be brought up) but different mediums require different allowances and constraints.

"Two Hearts" Like it's intended to, it sounds like a song straight out of 60s Motown.
This is a great film with characters that actually act like real people, have arcs, and make you care about them.
However, there's just no beating the 1978 original. Roger and Peter are one of the best movie duos of all time.
