Agreed WatchMojo on YouTube started including it on their sci fi top 10 lists I noticed Just about every movie buff I know who's seen it thinks it's an excellent movie. Addiction to devices ala visual stimulus. Just look at us and our cellphones... The Squid machine obviously takes that to a whole other level, but it's not far off now with recent breakthroughs in computer and brain interfacing. It's a great movie with a great cast, and a terrific soundtrack. Shame the odds of it getting a 4K release are pretty much nil. You mean the version with Jerry Goldsmith's score? That's my favourite. Tangerine Dream's music didn't suit the movie it sounded crappy and dated. Agreed, its an excellent movie. I wouldn't say ahead of it's time though. Wrong. This is one of the great American films. Has OP ever seen a bat? They're hideous! Those lifeless beady eyes! Lmao Thank you! I'd like to hear what other people think about his movies She's also a dedicated Scientologist. It's easy to fall into this stuff with that kind of cult fanatic mentality. Why is he "too good of a character"? I'm generally curious. I loved Ford in the first three films but I don't see how we need to see him portray the character five times. He gave the script to Spielberg to direct. Being a good friend, he felt in his heart that the story's sentimental arc was more suited to Spielberg's sensibilities. I actually really like the second half of A.I. which is the ending Kubrick wrote. It's a common mistake that Spielberg created the ending, it was all Kubrick's idea. However he was renowned for altering scripts during production on his own films, so who knows whether he and Spielberg would've discussed changing the ending. The latest 4K transfer does look and sound fantastic. Granted, I usually find old horror movies like this, from the 80s and pre-80s, to be creepier on vhs transfers or laserdiscs. Something about not being able too see as much of the details in shadows and the cold (horribly crappy) color palette made them more eerie. Maybe I'm the only person who thinks this, though. If you mean as in stand up comic turned dramatic actor...my personal number 1 pick will always be Peter Sellers (coincidentally also Robin's favourite comedic actor), however Williams left behind an undeniable legacy of dramatic performances and a lot more of them than Sellers did. Sellers did Strangelove, but we never saw him portray a "serious" villain which Williams played twice and was amazingly convincing. He creeps me out no end in "Insomnia." I mean it's not Oscar worthy, but I think Cruise does a decent job playing a young and naive kid and it never bothered me.
...good thing his acting chops got better as he got older.
Have you seen Scorsese's "The Color Of Money," from what I remember Cruise filmed that around the same time, and that's an impressive performance. His acting was also memorable in the movie "Risky Business" which came out a year or two prior to "Legend."
Tim Curry's outstanding performance as Lord Darkness and Ridley Scott's amazing 1985 visuals saved this movie
Agreed, Tim Curry is absolutely awesome as Darkness. Also worthy of praise is the sound design and Jerry Goldsmith's beautiful music score. My personal favourite is The Earrings of Madame De... Le Plaisir, La Ronde and Letter From An Unknown Woman ...are also great. "Nukiiiiiieeeeee" "Meekkoooooo" "America, helppp uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuusss" So many classic lines
his version of the temptation of Galadriel is better because it's understated, not bombastic & over the top—and I say that as someone who loves Cate Blanchett as an actress
Wholeheartedly agree with that. TLOTR is my second favourite Bakshi film, because it is faithful to Tolkien's vision in many regards. Not to mention, in parts the animation and voice performances are wonderful. Almost every movie will inevitably become outdated, so what's the point. Personally I like the 90s Vegas setting with the great mid-90s industrial rock soundtrack. Also a modern remake wouldn't look as awesome, because a cinematographer as talented as Jost Vacano wouldn't touch the project for fear of career death.
