My girlfriend is a counsellor and she says that you would be surprised by how many stories are eerily similar. Relationship/cheating stories are especially similar, she said. I always had the suspicion that Dr. Nicky knew more than he was letting on, though. Guess we'll find out. I think it's funny how everyone is calling this a docu-drama. It's a story told about three people who are now dead. Is Alexander a docu-drama? Is Braveheart a docu-drama? Schindler's list? Anyone who could tell you anything is now dead. The movie was made because it's about a polyamorous relationship in the 30s and 40s. That's interesting! It's a movie based off of this premise, and the very real discrimination that they faced. I'm glad that the writer/director made this film. It was fascinating. But not once did I think that it was anything but fiction. Things were made up, invented, and much of the story is probably completely untrue. It was still a great movie. I don't know about this particular user, but when I saw the trailer I thought it would be a new perspective on contemporary horror. I didn't see who directed it, or else I would have known better. I thought there was going to be a paranormal element, and I did not know that it was going to be a metaphor about the planet, or an allegory about religion. The trailer really made it look like it could be something really "spooky" (haunted house, weird strangers, flippant husband). I felt that Black Swan was better at being scary and being disturbing at different moments and at the same time. I felt that Mother! didn't have that nuance. I never once felt afraid in Mother!, not even at the jumpscares (which are awful in this movie). The movie itself was good, though. It just wasn't what I was expecting when I saw the trailer.
