This "whitewash" argument is stupid because none of you guys would watch a Japanese/Korean produced Alita/GitS.
A lot of youtube reviewers who are savvy with manga seems to like/love it.

You can take it as his commanding officer was giving the guy an alibi because he was a good soldier and reasoned he raped due to his PTSD and deserved a second chance.
