Spot on! This is my take on it as well. Heard lots of comments leaving the theater saying "man, that was boring" and I'm like wtf! It was one of the most interesting takes on a dried out genre in years. Apparently people just want to be spoon-fed cliched shit and jump scares these days to be able to maintain attention to the screen. Don't get me wrong, people are entitled to dislike the movie for whatever reasons, and it might sound pretentious AF but it just makes me sad when quality stuff like Hereditary is getting shit on because people don't "get it".
I do think the marketing of the movie is partly to blame. In the trailer it does look like your run-of-the-mill horror.

Absolutely not. I stand by my 1-rating :)
People do die in this movie, though. It's just not bloody at all.
1 - there's a few soldiers getting shot and bombed by planes but you'll never see any blood nor dismemberment. There's a reason it's PG13.
