I agree. The ending was lazy.
I'm non-Brit and I thought it was a riot! I consider this a modern day classic, now and is one of my favorite comedies.
I had no idea who Alan Partridge was until watching the movie recently on Netflix. I thought it was great, modern day classic!
I agree completely! I've been scouring the internet for a discussion forum on this film and finally found this one. Although it doesn't have much activity, I'm glad to see that others were as frustrated by this crappy ending as I was. I replayed the endind twice and you can sort of make out Beau's step mom, Kate, (Gere's wife) say into the phone, "Oh, you're alright, thank God." But I could be wrong. Did you catch that? Either way, what an abrupt and shit ending!
