👍 Exactly my point... Rogue One is inoffensive to 'hardcore' fans (the ones we're talking about, not everyone, clearly) because it doesn't touch legacy characters and doesn't touch much of the StarWars scripture... A Kenobi movie now would be controversial... Fans, sorry 'hardcore' fans wouldn't just say "that's a bit shit" and walk away... They would mount an anti-Kenobi-movie campaign, arrange boycotts of tangentally related movies and such... They're already on high-alert... It's just asking for trouble to touch a legacy character now... We don't have to agree... it's fine... The fans M.O. is that they hype, then they destroy... that has been the pattern until Solo, which was boycotted... It's part of the fetishising of the OT... The obsessive, nearly hermeneutic adherence to the OT means that anything else will end up being destroyed by the fans, even if initially well received and hyped... As by definition anything new is a departure from StarWars-scripture... If you cannot see the difference in fan reaction between starwars fans and other movie fans, even other obsessives like the comic-book/Superheroes lot, then I don't think I will be able to make my point understood to you... But that's fine... I still think that a decent Kenobi movie would be demolished by the fans at some point even if it was initially well received, which would be difficult anyway as it would be a Kathleen Kennedy production... I see where you're coming from, but fans would still find a way to tear down a Kenobi movie... There is always something to complain about... And Disney are once bitten twice shy about such character spinnoffs due to the Solo fan boycott... It worked for Rogue One and for The Force Awakens, both incredibly popular movies.. It's really the Luke and Liea backlash in Last Jedi that triggered most of the hate.. So with those two no longer in the story, it makes sense to take that further rather than risk triggering the wrath of fans by doing something 'unpure' with Kenobi... Solo proved this... The fans have spoken. The execs have listened. I'm not judging what is right, or wrong or what is good... But this is what fans want. They have made it quite clear that they don't want their 'legacy' characters touched... Disney is listening to 'true' fans... no? Hardcore fans would boycott a Kenobi movie as it deals with sacred 'legacy' characters and they'd be upset at any changes... This is what happened with the Hanz Solo movie and thr Luke character in Last Jedi... So they're being conservative by sticking to what works, i.e. the main series and new characters... The fans have spoken, Disney has listened... absolutely... lots of fun 😁 I think Neymar's exagerated diving and play-acting resulted in much stronger refereeing in the following quarterfinal matches... Refs ignored numerous play-acting incidences (i.e, didn't reward them will fouls), issued verbal warnings and even gave out a yellow card... I hope this continues in the semifinal and final matches... The thing is, it's only the best refs that have shown the character in being able to do this consistantly in every game.... And nearly all teams use play-acting, but some are more subtle than others... Japan is probably the only team that hasn't... Brazil beat Mexico sending them out of the World Cup, so it's not surprising that their fans would be a bit sore... 😉 Definitly a theatre type movie I think the French will surprise everyone against Belgium... People seem to underestimate them, but I think they have the best team of the remaining 4... I also suspect that Belgium might have let their win over Brazil get to their heads... Icarus comes to mind 🤔 Should be a great match... Both attacking minded teams... High stakes... I think England's odds against Croatia look good given the state of the Croatian team... I wonder whether they can recover physically after such a big match against Russia... Their keeper, Subasic, in particular had to play 30 minues and endure a penalty shootout while injured... If they can recover, it should be a very competitive game... I think it'll be France Vs. Croatia in the final, but I can see it being the other pair as well! 👍 Exciting semifinals! 😎 We need to clone Diego Maradona and give each country one version 😉 I think that would encourage the defenders to stay back during their team's attack in fear of counter attacks as midfielders are forced to make forward passes when not in good position... Football is complex.. there are unintended consequences when rules are changed, because players and teams adapt... Watching the post-match press conference with the Russian coach... He's something else! I think the profile of the sport will grow in Russia and they can try to build from there... This kind of success is useful I think Croatia earned their place at the semi-finals... I hope they rest well for the match so we can see a high level of play in their match against England... Solid win for England... I think their coach is very familair with the Swedish style of play as it used to be common in the Premier League... 👍 Sexuality is part of life, of drama and such... Lots of adult thrillers in the 90s, alluring movies in the 60s and such, etc... This is an Oceans movie.... Should be a little bit flirty at least.... Why should movies ignore this part of life and of drama? Why limit sexuality to robotic pornos and reality TV? Maybe it's a film and not a movie 😉 Many excellent movies are light on plot... Especially European ones... Open your mind and explore other aspects of cinema... Movies that are more about themes, ideas and such... or about mood and atmosphere, where the filmmaker, like any good artist, wants to communicate his sensibility to us, or to impart and idea or feeling... This is what separates 'the cinema', from TV... 😎 And it is in movies across genres from existential sci fi like 2001 to war epics like Dunkirk or the beautiful and sensitive American Honey... Films that make us think or feel... Films that move us and tell us something about the human condition... Not just empty stories filled with incident and exposition... Open your mind and enjoy... Yes. I like popcorn movies too. One can enjoy both... I'll sometimes get the FT (Financial Times) if I'm travelling or commuting... Otherwise, I don't bother as I read enough news at work from the wire services mostly AP, Reuters and such... Asif Kapadia is making a documentary about his time at Napoli, but I think he's worth a proper narrative feature film as well... Maradona (2018) https://moviechat.org/tt5433114 Very colourful character 😎
