I propose "Larry Bueller's 28 Days Off."
In suburban Chicago, on senior skip day high school senior Ferris Bueller's cousin Larry and his two pals break into a medical research laboratory. A scientist in the lab desperately warns them against releasing the captive chimpanzees, which are infected with a highly contagious rage-inducing virus. Ignoring his pleas, the activists release a chimp, which infects a female activist. She then attacks and infects everyone else present except Larry who escaped and ran into traffic and was hit by a car and taken to a hospital.
28 days later he awakens from a coma in St Thomas' Hospital. He finds the entire hospital deserted. He wanders the streets of Chicago finding it deserted as well, with signs of catastrophe everywhere. He runs into Abe Froman sausage king of Chicago. Abe claims the virus has been reported in Paris and New York City as well, suggesting the infection has spread worldwide.
THey wanders around the Art Institute of Chicago, Sears Tower, Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and Wrigley Field and discover two more survivors – Cameron and Sloane – who join him.
Meanwhile over at the local ROTC, Principal Edward R. Rooney and his cousin Ferris' sister Jeannie have started a colony among the infected survivors who still live but are horribly disfigured. Jeannie in particular has a deformed nose now!
The story ramps up to an epic showdown between Ferris and the colony of mutants in a Omega Man twist.
