9 was the first one to reply to one of my messages here. I almost filed a bug report. Because it said '9 replied to your comment in the thread "Farewell my friends!" in Office Space (1999)'. I was flabberguested for such a new forum.. So many replies.. But... I only saw one reply :) :) It later dawned on me ;). * checking if 7 is already taken :) I just watched this movie. It was great! Still in tears. Beautiful movie about the challenges one has when diagnosed with such a terrible illnes, literally having to live one day at a time. Also about the devistation when finding out, but mostly focused on having a sense of humor about it and letting the illness not master you but the other way around. Very very well done and great respect for having achieved this. I had not noticed it until I saw this post :) Just saw the movie btw. I believe that too. There had to be an explanation and this does it for me. "I secretly hope that this will be their downfall" I kind of regret saying this, not really my style to be this harsh. So I'll take that back if possible :). On a final note... you talk about "positive experience".. Maybe IMDB meant their own 'positive experience' were no longer provided (i.e. ad revenue :)). Just kidding. I really think IMDB has made the wrong decision here. For one the decision alone. But also the way they have executed it. 2 weeks notice, closing the boards early, not having a few months where the boards are read only. And the way they communicated about it. You can use facebook of twitter. That's just a joke and I find that they made us the joke. How dumb do they think we are. Because of this attitude, people are not only looking for an alternative for the boards, but also for IMDB as a whole. I secretly hope that this will be their downfall, just for the message that users are what IMDB made and makes. Just like fans make the star. I have learned a lot of alternative which I really like, like tastekid. Have been looking for such a site for ages. rottentomatoes, had heard of it but never felt the urge to go there. Because of the way IMDB has treated their users, I think that imdb will lose a lot of its market share and no longer be the ONE source for movieinfo. I think the boards are coming more and more alive here. Not at the level IMDB had, but really promising I think. And the banner at the top of the main screen with the movies people most recently replied at, is a really great help with that. I was more a lurker than a poster, but trying to post more to generate traffic. I actually liked the movie a lot. Moonlight first two acts were great. Last act (when he was grown up) became boring and too long. I never thought it would win an oscar actually Yet trolls aren't the reason the message boards of IMDB were closed, even so they stated that. They could easily hire someone who is in charge of moderation. A lot of people are willing to do that in their spare time. or even better, make a voting system like reddit. But also, don't feed the troll :). Which one? The blue one? Cause I saw a red one on eBay next to the auction of the imdb site ;). Maybe we could use it to staple the message boards back on :) View all replies >
