Tommy only loved Grace. There were no others. The most interesting, of course, was May but that ended because of Grace. He would never abandon or not celebrate Grace’s and their child, Charlie. who seemed to disappear. The writers probably should have made their child a girl. It seems most stories with the alpha male and his child are always about the daughter. I can only think the people behind the show might have liked the actress who plays Lizzie and thought we’ll rework it so she become the central female even though it was so implausible. Or they were just out of ideas of who and what to do with Tommy’s love life. There was absolutely no chemistry with Tommy and Lizzie. They looked so funny together. At one point early on, Stephen Knight, the creator and writer of the series, said he wanted to take the series into the future and that Tommy would go legit in politics. Then there seem to be a huge lapse of time between each season. They were having a lot of trouble. One season seemed like it took two years. I think Cillian wanted out. John was mad and got out. Knight had other films to write. And then of course the untimely passing of Helen McCrory - Polly. So they just blew everything up. Literally. That was definitely not supposed to happen with the story-boarding of the series in its early stages. I also don’t think they realized the significance of Annabelle Wallis’ performance and that everything after that seemed lackluster. Just another great series like Dexter gone to dust.
She looked just like her. And she talked like her. She did not have the same body. I have seen both actresses. She did a phenomenal job. At times I forgot that it wasn’t actually MM. I don’t love anything that much where I can’t see what it is. I can see what it isn’t.

No. She was the real deal.
But my house, my rules was the family’s attitude toward her. They couldn’t remember where she came from. Overly patronizing. And the one family guy had no problem making her the scapegoat. Prison for life. If that happened, not one of those people would have come to her rescue. They’d want the money. Even if they knew she was most likely innocent. The tables are turned. I see her being very good to the people who were good to her.
She was a good and honest and smart person, and Harlan spotted that. That which his own family was lacking. So did Blanc. I don’t think it is boring. There are people who don’t steal or tell lies. And ironically if something was to show up missing, she’s the first person they would look to. I loved the ending. Much better than the second one with the Mona Lisa.
I do think with $60M, Harlan didn’t have to disinherit his entire family. Some family members are fine as they are. It’s just family.
I think it was a horrible thing to do to disinherit them. There’s enough to go around. And this family will challenge it. Probably years of litigation. It wasn’t smart and it’s mean spirited. This is just a movie.
Exactly. And you do get that. That he wanted to die and wanted to do so for a while. That’s why I said he relished it - for not only being able to actually die his way, but the creativity of the whole thing. He effectively constructed his last great plot.
It’s part of the story. And it’s great because it is really original. And only someone like Christopher Plummer could pull it off. But I fell for it. I felt it was a huge screw up on her part. I actually felt that it is a mistake anybody could make. I pictured myself making it. And he kept pushing her to play GO, to do all this stuff. Always in a hurry. I thought still call 911. But you find out later. Harlan made a “good“ choice because he knew the viciousness of the family and she would have gone to prison if it did happen the way they thought at first. Actually if Blanc wasn’t detective who knows. But as a viewer, when you do find out what actually happens, you say. Oh if only you waited. But that’s the story.
My house, my rules. Great ending. Really good little mystery in the traditional big house “British” mysteries. And comical too.

He was trying to protect her. By killing himself takes the heat off her. And he liked her and wanted her to have a good life and his estate. He knew he had to act quickly or he wouldn’t be able to execute his mission. He spent enough time trying to explain to her what she was to do and felt it was a ticking time bomb. He wasn’t afraid of dying. He chose his death and actually relished it.
For me. This movie is Christmas. I used to work in this building. For three years. And tho I’m not recalling the building having a party. Like others I’ve been in. With canapés and champagne for all those working there. But my office had a huge party and then around 5 we’d walked over to the Century Plaza Hotel to have a fantastic meal. Drink. And dance all night. When I see this movie, I think of the Christmas at the office and I like it so much better than family ones, although that’s nice as well. I live where Christmas day is 85 degrees and all of us would go to the movies after the meal. The theaters were packed always at Christmas. The day after, you realize you are another $1000 or more in debt and you work so hard preparing the meal. The tree. Cleanup. Buying stuff. The gifts you give are nowhere the gifts you get. So I love watching this movie during Christmas and I love watching The Thin Man too. Seeing Nick and Nora in their NYC penthouse with their party. I realize this is an action movie but that’s fine. Sometimes the thing not center stage becomes more celebratory than the main thing.
Riders of Justice is more a Christmas movie probably because all these people that don’t fit in do fit in at this one moment. And it makes me tear up. There’s only so many times you can see It’s a Wonderful Life.
It is without a doubt one of the best performances I’ve ever seen. She is MM.
The movie followed the book and the director did an excellent job but there’s little love and you kind of feel empty. The book was also written 20 years ago. So maybe doing the book was the problem. And, although her photos transcend time, she herself was from another time. One in which most people of today can’t comprehend. Technically, she was born almost 100 years ago.
