There were a lot of excellent episodes in season 3, but my top three favorites in order of preference are: 1. Convicts at Large 2. Man in a Hurry 3. The Big House I agree, she was definitely not the nicest character on the show. Always complaining about being alone, but no one ever seemed to be good enough for her. The way she treated the man that owned the deli who had a crush on her really turned me off to her character. On the plus side, I hear that Rose Marie was quite a nice lady. I watched this episode last night and it was very entertaining. I'm not a big fan of Aunt Bee's, but Francis Bavier knows quite well how to play someone who is tipsy. If I had a wife that looked like Carol Post, I'd be spending much more time in the house than in the barn - talking horse or not. :) Class Reunion was extremely depressing. At least the situation was rectified in the return to Mayberry movie. Cousin Virgil is my least liked episode - Michael J. Pollards character was creepy. Some of the color episodes are quite enjoyable. My favorites by season are - 6 Warning from Warren, 7 Dinner at Eight, 8 The Wedding. Overall, 'Dinner at Eight' is my all time favorite of the color episodes. Yes, the episodes weren't bad... I enjoyed the ones that I've seen, but I don't recall any other show doing this with established characters. Kind of surprising to see that Andy married Catwoman. :) Agreed! At times, Helen may not have been the most reasonable character, but in this case I think she was right and Andy was the one who was out of line. You've just listed a 'murderers row' of pain in the butts, and while Helen is not in the same league, she also could be quite unreasonable and abrasive at times (Dinner at Eight is a good example). I do agree that Clara Edwards was a 'real' stinker though... jealous, petty, manipulative, etc. Well, he did have Helen.... which may actually have been a reason 'for' Andy to get a bit teary. She was, after all, kind of a pain in the ass. That would have made for a very funny episode. I can see them both battling to win Lydia Crosswaithes affection. In the first season episode S01E30 'Barney Gets His Man' there is a crowd scene at the beginning, and in that scene a black lady has a line of dialog. Andy was also quite upset when he caught Barney and Goober spying on him and Helen through her window late at night. I think Andy got maddest at Aunt Bee's jackass former boyfriend Roger Hanover. He was the only one whom Andy pointed a shotgun at and implied he would shoot him. Howard Sprague smokes Newport cigarettes. At one point, during the first few minutes of the episode "Howard's New Life" a pack of Newport cigarettes can clearly be seen in Howards left shirt pocket. Yes, it's part of the 40 Acres lot where 'Gone With the Wind' was filmed. The house to the right of Andy's was constructed for the character Aunt Pittypat and was used in GWTW. It was also used in the TAGS episode 'The Haunted House'. Andy's house was built for the film 'The Girl Most Likely'. The other house on the same block that was used in GWTW was the first one on the street with the white picket fence - that house was also used as the Mendlebright boarding house in 'Up in Barneys Room' and Floyds home in the episode 'Divorce, Mountain Style'. Regarding the road in front of Andy's house - it was a dirt road for seasons 1-7. It was still a dirt road in the season seven episode 'Goodbye, Dolly', but in the season eight episode 'Barney Hosts a Summit' it has been paved. Both of those color episodes that Barney appears in are quite good and it is fun to see them in order. A few months back I watched 2 episodes of The Andy Griffith Show and 2 episodes of Gomer Pyle USMC in sequential order: 12/14/64 Episode 4-13 Andy and Helen Have Their Day 12/18/64 Episode 1-13 The Case of the Marine Bandit 12/24/64 Episode 4-14 Three Wishes for Opie 12/25/64 Episode 1-14 Sergeant of the Week PS I just wanted to say that it's really nice seeing people posting here after IMDB shut down their boards. It's nice that your reviewing all these episodes. I rarely watch first season episodes, but I watched episode 4 last night and will be watching this one tonight. That Elinor Donahue sure was a looker. Considering all the pans of cashew fudge that Thelma Lou made for Barney on Tuesday nights when they watched 'that doctor show' together, you would think he'd spring for lunch at least once in a while. :) Guess he figured he had her in his hip pocket anyway, so it really wasn't a concern.
