Okay thanks all, I don't feel so silly now. Benevolent 5th dimensional aliens I could believe - but humans from the far future who have transcended to the 5th dimension and now want to rescue their ancestors... that's a stretch too far that was unnecessary.
You would certainly be forgiven for thinking so. But this episode was actually written by Channing Powell - who is an executive producer and has written 17 episodes of The Walking Dead - ie. Someone who knows TWDU inside out! Which only makes it even more puzzling that they would have written such a stinker of an end to what was otherwise a credible back story episode. Unbefu##inglievable.
Agreed. It's all very USA-centric. But that's a reflection of the USA's ethnocentrism: eg. I get summer-themed mail-outs from companies all the time (generally it's IT companies who have customers all over the globe - like "The sun is setting on summer but our special deals are still available for you!") apparently blissfully unaware that a good proportion of their customers are living in the Southern hemisphere, and currently suffering the throes of a cold, wet winter...
Well I think it's nice that they get to do that sort of thing these days. When I was in high school we barely had access to one video camera - just imagine what fantastic stuff these talented students will be able to turn out once they've graduated!
I had the same thought, and had to park it to one side with the assumption that 'well, it's probably some kind of alien-manufactured micro black hole or somthn'
In fact, the above theories have actually proved to be remarkably accurate in the context of the series.

You make a good point and I agree. In those respects it reminds me of a show called Outcast (2016-2017) which also had supernatural themes that were never adequately explained, and in the end the whole thing just imploded in a "okay, well, how the f-ck do we end this??" kinda way.
Servant has another season to run and M Night Shayamalan is on record as saying it will be a challenge to wrap it up neatly. But if anyone can do it, it's him.
I wondered about whether that was true, or whether it was just a lie used to try to stop innies from trying to pass messages to their outies.
I think if I were desperate enough to do what I'm suggesting above, I may even be desperate enough to go a step further and let them cut my fingers off, to teach my outie a lesson - it's still not going as far as Helly did, after all.
As for paying for the medical procedure - that wouldn't worry my innie, in fact I'd be glad to have inconvenienced my outie that way too!
Yes! If I were an Innie and hated it, I would go batshit crazy and start smashing up the furniture, monitors, etc.
And I wouldn't care shit about the Break Room, cos I'd know that all I have to do is keep smashing up shit when I get out again - I mean what are they gonna do, kill me?
It wouldn't be long before Lumon realizes I'm no füçkin use to them as a worker, I'm costing them $$ and they'd have to tell my Outie that my employment is terminated.
Is there anything I'm missing here with this strategy, any reason it wouldn't work?
