It was overhyped, but then what movie today isn't overhyped as the "best (insert movie genre here) film" ever made? What movie studio is going to say "This movie is only okay. See it if you want to" I thought it was an okay shark film (To me, Jaws is still the grand master of shark films). Too bad. There are a lot of great films out there that are lower than "R". Your choice, however. Yes, they were similar. I think the producers (and/or director) wanted to honor Jaws with a bit of a humorous tweaking. Of course, they did not call the dog by the name given in Jaws. That dog's name was actually "Pippet". But the reference was close enough for me to enjoy the little wink at the fans of Jaws. Yes Actually, he is named Pippin, but that was close enough for me! IMHO, the book was not so much about the shark as it was about what the shark's existence did to the town. It kind of exposed all the corruption (the mayor was in with the Mob), the lack of good character (I did not feel I could root for anyone, even Brody, who in the book is a jerk.) and other things. The movie was better, IMHO, and I usually think the book a movie is based on is better. In some cases, MUCH better than the film. I agree. In my humble opinion, it is the single greatest monologue ever put on the screen. What country are we enemies with? We are not really enemies with China anymore. To the OP - Not trying to anger you, but your post says more about your mindset than it does about the film. I think you might need some counseling. It sounds like your family life was a bit rougher than most. Again, not trying to piss anyone off here. She reminded me of the killer woman in Die Hard 4 I am going to assume that you don't like Asians A long time ago, Gene Hackman, who I respect as an actor, was asked why he does so many films a year. His response was that an actor, to get better, has to work as much as possible to hone his craft. Nicolas Gage took that advice and works a lot. Now, granted, Cage is not of the same caliber as Hackman, but he has the same work ethic. He wants to improve his abilities. And granted, Dwayne Johnson is not up to the caliber of Nicolas Cage, and certainly not Hackman, but he probably thinks along those lines, also. And I have noticed over the years, that he has improved. Will he ever be an Oscar winner? Probably not, but you never can tell. Just look at Barbara Streisand, Cher and Kim Basinger. No one ever thought that any of them would win Oscars, but they did. Not from an interview I saw. He admits he is not a great actor. But he is happy people like to watch his movies. Did you see it on the big screen or on television? That makes a difference. (Television commercials ruin the atmosphere of most horror films.) But it is too late for you now, as watching it in the theater would not have the same effect now, as you know what to expect. But, I can tell you that in 1973, this movie shocked the movie-going public. I was in the audience then. Damn, that is too bad. Boy I feel sorry for Gary Busey. Here is a guy who was a pretty good actor and made some bad life choices...got in a bad wreck and his life went downhill from there. LOL! It was. I got misty when you first see The Shire. Jackson captured Hobbiton perfectly. You are, of course, entitled to an opinion. Obviously, you are in the minority here. Obviously, you failed.
