Regarding Jail-Box the sheriff built... possible spoiler alert.

In our real world, I understand the need for jail, prison sentences, death penalties, etc., as a deterrent for doing bad things. I fail to see the rationale or logic in the "From" world for the jail-box. As if monsters coming out at night, that will rip you to shreds, isn't enough of a deterrent already. LOL! Secondly, the mother was home. She should have looked after the daughter to make sure she didn't do anything stupid. How do the people in this town not see that the husband losing the wife and daughter was punishment already? Dude, probably doesn't even want to live anymore. Thirdly, why do children have their own bedrooms in this world? As if everything is normal. We know these monsters/ghosts will try and talk to you, trick you, play mind games, etc. You will leave it up to your child to make wise decisions in the middle of the night?

So far, a pretty entertaining show. I really like these Twilight Zone, M. Night Shamalama-dingdong type stories. I really enjoy it, but the jail-box death penalty, as a deterrent, makes no sense to me. There is already a deadly, scary azz deterrent in this town. I don't need a jail-box that will expose me to the same deterrent to deter me. I'll know to be on my best behavior. I don't need this duplicate deterrent to remind me. LOL!

I think they realized the jailbox was extreme in that fathers case, but in the end he went willingly. I definitely see the need for it though. All it would take was one nutjob to lose it and get a ton of people killed.

Agreed on the rooms though. Why are those bedroom windows not boarded up?

reply

I rolled my eyes at those windows too. Like how can anyone be so stupid in that town and have child to go sleep in her own room knowing that monsters can talk child into opening windows?

Why is every window not sealed from outside? Why all members of family do not sleep in one room with no windows and closed doors? Children should be monitored and even tied up when they sleep. For reasons.

And that commune? So stupid for so many people to sleep in one building. At any time one person could lose it and open doors and everyone will die.

reply

I'm always making sure my kids don't talk to strangers on Roblox. LOL! Let alone ghosts that can talk, play mind games, and rip you to shreds if you let them in. You would think parents in this world would make sure their kids don't sleep alone at night.

Have you seen Ep7 yet? Haha.

1) The box would remind people that the monsters were a constant threat, despite the safety of the totems. It also means they wouldn't have to appoint an executioner among the survivors - they just lock the person in and walk away.

2) Perhaps the mother let her guard down, just once, since there had been no attacks for such a long stretch of time. Maybe she assumed the second floor of the building would be safer. The husband losing his wife and child was punishment, but it also meant he couldn't be relied upon in the community.

3) You can't monitor your child all through the night, unless you tie them down or something. I guess these people just got unlucky and were assigned to a house which only had bedrooms with windows. Then again, as we see with Victor, windows are the easiest way to escape if monsters breach the house.

> they just lock the person in and walk away.

That horse hauler was secure, so if the monsters to bust through the solid wooden boards that it had for walls, why can't they break through the windows in houses?

reply

As we see in nearly every episode of the series, the townspeople have mysterious talismans that, when placed inside an enclosing structure, act as a shield from the monsters.

The monsters can also be invited inside, as shown with the child in the first episode and the extremely lonely guy during the party.

The box does not have a talisman, therefore the monsters can simply rip it open.

reply

I'm sure I don't need to mention that, though that seems to be what we are supposed to think - it doesn't make any sense at all.

reply

What doesn't make any sense? The talismans?

> How do the people in this town not see that the husband losing the wife and daughter was punishment already?

I agree.

I don't like stuff like this show. I got started watching it, and there is not much else to watch right now that I have not already seen. This show is beyond stupid. I think dark fantasy like this screws with people's minds over time - and there is so, so much of it these days.

The "government," even this towns rules, have a moral obligation to be better than the "criminals." If they decided on a death penalty, they should have shot him in the head. Leaving people to be tortured before killed should be unacceptable. Coming up with the "box" is the product of a twisted mind.

I would say that there is so little that makes sense in this show that there is very little to say about it that makes sense. Saying that it is stupid makes one seem stupid. It invites no reasonable conversation and leaves one with nothing to say. It is almost as if that is the point of the writers.

Its second season and they already forgot about box existence and monsters are barely any threat. LOL.

I’m reading this old post and actually remember how scary monsters were in first season. And then remember new season and no one is afraid of monsters anymore. They killed some newbees from the bust in episode 1. And then it was it I think. Characters can now literally outrun them! Because monsters move like slow zombies on Walking Dead.

One guy went outside, rolled a car to the door, injured guy had a time to jump in they all took a ride to hospital. All while monsters were slowly marching towards them.

Then sheriff went outside, screamed for few minutes to get monsters attention. They slowly marched, he killed one of them and them monsters slowly marched away.

Oh and no one is afraid to open doors when strangers run to your house anymore. They just know its real people.

It looks like no one had to die at all because anyone can out run them.
