Very dull "slow burn" that really doesn't go anywhere

I didn't find this movie very gripping and didn't think it introduced much new. I found it to be a very dull slow burn movie. Kinda reminds me of a lot of indie movies that people like but I just find slow and dull. Its constantly brought up like people think its the greatest movie of all-time but I don't get it. A slow burn can work if there's like a big payoff at the end but I didn't get that.

Basically this movie just stays in one place the whole time. You don't feel like the movie is moving along and it just goes nowhere.

Doesn't go anywhere? The ending was horrifying, even more so because its a true story. I was emotionally not ok when this was over.

reply

The end is horrifying yes, but there was like no lead up to it

reply

The whole movie was a lead up to it, moron.

The same could be said about Nomadland which won Best Picture and Best Director Oscars. I guess a key difference is when the socioeconomic struggles of a White woman are portrayed in a film it is deserving of the highest accolades in the industry. But when the socioeconomic struggles of a Black man are depicted, it is somehow considered slow and dull.

So say the same about Nomadland if you want. I won't be butthurt over it. I haven't even watched Nomadland. I have no interest and expect it to be dull and boring also. It wasn't a strong year for movies at all.

reply

It's almost as if the top active directors forgot how to make good movies this past year. For example, I had great expectations for Tenet which turned out to be a disappointment. That being said, there were movies that exceeded my expectations such as Promising Young Woman, Judas and the Black Messiah, Mauritanian, The Invisible Man and Mank. Heck, movies that were bashed by the critics such as Crisis and The Informer were better crafted and more entertaining than Nomadland.

reply

Yea I didn't get too far into Tenet, I knew I wouldn't like it. At some point I just gave up bothering with any movies that came out in 2020. I heard so much about Promising Young Woman so I watched that and it was good.

The story deserved a better movie. I was disappointed.
