A damning indictment

This movie was a damning indictment of neoliberal capitalism. This is what globalism and neoliberalism does to a nation and to a people. It tears at the very fabric of society, it uproots people and rips communities apart. People become alienated from their neighbors, they move around so much that they don’t even know their neighbors anymore.

Under such a system People either become poor, lonely hermits like in this movie or they become bugmen living in pods...addicted to the rootless cosmopolitan lifestyle of mindless consumerism. An empty, spiritually/culturally dead existence of social alienation and cynical nihilism.

As Peter Hitchens said;

“Globalization is all about wealth. It knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. Without borders the world will become – is visibly becoming – a howling desert of traffic fumes, plastic and concrete, where nowhere is home and the only language is money.”

So are you implying that neo-conservative capitalism based on a fascist, nationalist and racist system of government isn't somehow equally responsible for the ever widening inequality gap which has been escalating for the past 4 decades regardless of which political party controls the White House and U.S. Congress? Both neoconservatives and neoliberals pretty much agree on issues regarding capitalism, foreign policy, militarism, and the working class. The only area where they greatly differ on is primarily regarding cultural issues.

Are you also implying that a film depicting a White woman struggling to make ends meet equates to an indictment on neoliberal capitalism, while hypothetically speaking, a movie based on a Black man dealing with a similar socioeconomic struggle would be regarded by a neoconservative simply as being woke? I say this because this is a common view among neoconservatives nowadays. Not sure if you're a neoconservative--but judging by your quotation of a prominent neoconservative Peter Hitchens, while simultaneously bashing neoliberals, I'm assuming that you are.

The mistake many neoliberals and neoconservatives make is their failure to recognize that at the root of the socioeconomic predicament we find ourselves in today is the elitist billionaire ruling class who appear bent on bringing an authoritarian form of government which will be to the detriment of our standard of living regardless of which of their neoliberal or neoconservatives puppets are in power at any given moment.

Don't get me wrong--this film's heart is in the right place--I'm all for bridging the inequality gap and solving the homeless crisis, but this film failed to make this film as compelling and provocative as it needs to be. Personally, I can't think of a single scene or instance in this film where I haven't seen it done better in a previous feature film or docudrama.

If this film were truly an indictment of crony corporate capitalism, it would have gone after Amazon, which it clearly did not. Instead, Nomadland played it safe by depicting an Amazon fulfillment center as a clean, safe and enjoyable place for nomads to work. I'm guessing if this film exposed the exploitation of workers by the elites, especially evident since the COVID-19 pandemic began, it would not have won a Best Picture Oscar.

Neoliberals and neoconservatives are two sides of the same globalist coin. Fascist? Racist? Nationalist? What? “Conservatives” are just liberals going the speed limit. What have Conservatives conserved? Nothing. Not our jobs, not our culture, not our history and certainly not our sovereignty. There’s nothing nationalist about that. In fact real nationalist countries look out after their citizens, their jobs and their safety.

But it’s funny how you brought race into it, simply because the main character is white. I guess the suffering of a white person is less worthy of our...or your sympathy.

Conversely some poor black person In the same socioeconomic bus dealing drugs isn’t “woke.” It’s just you putting words where there are none. You brought race in this. I was talking socio economics. But you guys can’t seem to stop obsessing about people’s skin color.
