won the golden globe for best drama

i didn't like it that much

I was really hoping for either The Chicago Seven or Promising Young Woman (in that order)

reply

I haven’t seen it yet - it’s out here in a couple of weeks - but I’m looking forward to it and as it most likely blocked the rather condescending Trial of the Chicago 7 - which seemed like Globes catnip - I’m happy for it.

I already knew it will win, because it feature a woman, and more importantly: the director is a chinese woman.

That is two boost, too bad they didn't make the protagonist homosexual.

reply

Tonight, it won 4 Critics Choice awards, including best picture and best drama. I expect it to win picture and director at the Oscars as well.

reply

Neither the Golden Globes nor any other awards, particularly the Academy Awards, mean anything artistically. They have always been popularity contests, and in recent years have become measures of wokeness.

reply

I just watched it today. I think it is a masterpiece and the best film of 2020.

reply

i don't "get" this movie.

People tend to look down on NOMADS (the same way as others do GYPSIES), and have NEGATIVE views of them and their lifestyles.

So perhaps the IDEA is to try to illustrate how these NOMADS are GOOD PEOPLE who are down on their LUCK and aren't a bunch of "TRAMPS and THIEVES" who are out to try to ROB you or cheat you out of your money in some way???

Another comparison is the way that you also hear the expression "TRAILER TRASH" mentioned a lot, which also leaves one with an impression that anyone who inhabits a mobile home isn't a ethical person.

So maybe what they want you "TO GET" is how people who live in RV's are also not "TRASH" and don't deserve to have that kind of a derogatory label pinned upon them ???

I just didn't think much happened in the movie. I just didn't get it.

If so, did you like it?

Lost in Translation (film) - Wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_in_Translation_(film)

The film's writer-director, Sofia Coppola, has described Lost in Translation as a story about "things being disconnected and looking for moments of connection", a perspective that has been shared by critics and scholars. In a cultural sense, Bob and Charlotte are disoriented by feelings of jet lag and culture shock as a result of foreign travel to Japan.

Not much happens in that film either, but what's made evident is how the 2 MAIN CHARACTERS may as well have been visitors from SPACE who landed on an ALIEN PLANET (due to the way EVERYTHING about the CULTURE around them was so different and ALIEN to them).

Thus the reason why they also felt as if they were "LOST in TRANSLATION."

And That's probably also the same way as the NOMADS feel, as if they are also from SPACE and have landed on an ALIEN PLANET where they have also become "LOST in TRANSLATION" (due to the way their lives also don't CORRESPOND to the lives of others who have more SATIONARY LIVES -- and don't move about all of the time chasing after jobs or whatever else the case may be).
