really odd and unique film

Not sure if i would call it "horror" necessarily, definitely in its premise but not so much in its execution. the dialog style is very distinguished and unique and I think that carried the film. probably not the movie most are expecting, but I liked it.

I'm in the same boat - it was certainly unexpected - but eventually, I was turned off by reactions and the reasoning of various characters. I can't help but feel like it could have made a great point about cooking/pressure/critics and then I would be much more willing to accept surrealism present in this film - but since it didn't happen, the whole film felt flat to me - despite decent acting and a few good moments in the first half of the film.

Essentially, it lacked a key ingredient - a deeper purpose/meaning.

I think that overall is a good movie but what frustrates me is that some things don't seem to make sense. Like why Tyler(Nicholas Hoult) wanted to die? Maybe there were some clues there that I didn't catch. And another thing is that guests didn't tried to escape very hard. They just complain about the fact that they are going to die but they do almost nothing.

i felt that he didnt necessarily want to die in a suicide-depressed way, rather he was so absorbed in food being an artform that, if the art required his death for it be perfect, it was automatically "pure genius" and he would be willing to die for the art.

That makes a lot of sense. I was digging into his personality quite a bit with a friend. That makes more sense than just presuming he was inherently suicidal.

I like to think that the whispered message at the end was that he wouldn't be allowed to be partake in the final course, and that's what finally shattered him.

Definitely not a horror film.
I actually now understand why the movie trailers were unintelligible. This movie is really something else. And you can't really explain what it's about without pretty much ruining the entire experience.

reply

Something else?
What did you see in it?
I saw a trite plot, riding on the coattails of Squid Games, that offered very little to my palate.
It resembled Tyler's plate description to a T.

reply

I saw the plot.

You don't see the plot in the trailer.

Not sure what you saw because this movie was nothing like Squid Games.

reply

I still do not get what you mean by "something else".
