Once again, a shitty movie blames straight men for poor box office

Billy is saying homophobes are the reason this movie bombed. Taking it straight from the playbook from Terminator Dark Fate, the Charlies Angels reboot and Ghostbusters 2016. Evidently, straight men are the only people buying movie tickets.

reply

🤣🤣🤣 All you can do is laugh at this point.

reply

Do you think they realize they've become a parody of themselves?

reply

No they just don't get it.

reply

So if I don't watch this movie I'm a homophobe? Got it.

reply

This is the logical extension of the point the guy is making. Maybe I should say, the illogical extension

"That’s just the world we live in, unfortunately,” Eichner continued. “Even with glowing reviews, great Rotten Tomatoes scores, an A CinemaScore, etc., straight people, especially in certain parts of the country, just didn’t show up for Bros. And that’s disappointing but it is what it is.”

Eichner concluded his thoughts by encouraging “everyone who isn’t a homophobic weirdo” to see “Bros,” writing that it remains “special and uniquely powerful to see this particular story on a big screen.”

LMAO. Muh Rotten Tomatoes and CinemaScores???

Absolute cockwomble. You make a film for gay people (like...2% of the population?) and cry when it flops. Well done, you played yourself. This is what happens when you make films marketed for minute percentages of the population. What did you expect?

Straight people are not obligated to spend their time and money to support your gay rom-com!

Popular perception is that straight Women are the biggest consumers of rom-coms. They like them because they envisage themselves as the lady in question. Making a gay sausage fest squanders that market and sorry but straight Men in general do not like rom-coms (nevermind gay rom-coms). So you're left with gay men as your market (lesbians aren't likely to care for a sausage fest either). Well done. The height of idiocracy.

Box Office Pro predicted this movie would gross between $10 and $15 million in North America on opening weekend. Poor advance ticket sales made them lower that prediction to $8.8 million.

Box Office Report predicted $7.9 million.

Todd Thatcher had seen it and predicted $13 million.

Like you, I estimated that the true target audience was 2% of the population, and that 5% of them would pay to see it opening weekend, or $4.8 million.

Box Office Mojo reports opening weekend receipts of... $4.8 million.

Few romance films for straight people are released nowadays in theaters. Cable television programming is just buried with them (Hallmark, Up, Lifetime networks).

reply

you said it perfectly. Either they'll tire of losing money or go out of business, but this can't last forever.

reply

What’s even worse about the squealing of the filmmakers is that they called their gay romance ‘Bros’ - a term which

1) Technically is short for ‘Brothers’ and so carries an unpleasant whiff of incest, and

2) Is a term used by straight men to mean ‘friend’, so the title hints at homoeroticism in male friendships, which is icky, undermining and insulting.

The filmmakers are trolling guys with a film called ‘Bros’ showing two men grabbing asses on the poster and expected those guys to buy a ticket..? Obnoxious assholes.

reply

Also probably carries an unpleasant whiff of shit, used condoms and monkey pox.

reply

Ew

reply

I'm a straight man and I went and saw it and enjoyed it. It's a good movie.

reply

Yeah but I mean you're still a straight man so you're a monster by default really. Are you white also? If so then you're the devil incarnate.

reply

oooh true. especially if you have earned money, and build anything useful for the rest of the world.... SATAAAAAN!!!

When in fact, you’re actually channeling the lead of this film and his rant, isn’t that so “ironic” ???

This movie is a Romance between 2 white men. Race isnt the issue, and No one is talking about it except you.

Also it’s not straight people doing the complaining, it’s the writer/star of the movie complaining that straight people don’t care about his movie.

I was responding to Terrafirmas comment.

Terrafirma is clearly a straight white man who thinks everyone else brands him a "monster" because they've started making films that arnt his demographic.

You should delete whatever app you’re using for translations

reply

Nobody is whining with the exception of the producers which are surprised that straight people are not interested in movies about a gay romance.

reply

You're completely full of shit. leftist.

reply

This movie doesn't represent most gay men, just a small minority. It's not surprising that Eichner won't ever learn any lessons from this. His entire career is based on playing the token stereotype. Even if he were to realize that his appeal is necessarily limited, he'll continue to blame others for the movie's failure. The irony is that the reason he still has any career at all is due to wealth and privilege. If anyone else, gay or straight, led such a lifestyle of endless circuit parties, drugs, and disposable relationships in their forties but didn't have the Hollywood career to fall back on, they'd likely be strung out and alone well before old age sets in.

reply

It's one of several symptoms of Hollyweird's current mental illness affecting them. They hate the regular public for not liking the films they like, and yet they still want that money from the box office. I've never seen a business so self-defeating like this before 2016. If any other business ran things like Hollyweird has, they would be filing Chapter 11 in six months to a year.

reply

It couldn’t possibly be because the trailer made it clear that the movie is unfunny, cringy, self-important, condescending, and full of unlikable characters.

reply

Agree. I'm a gay man and I rolled my eyes at the obnoxious trailer.

I believe the reason the film tanked is that the general public - gay people included - is sick and TIRED of the LGBTXYZ extremists shoving their ridiculous propaganda down everyone's throats at every televised event, Emmys, Grammy, Oscars, you name it.
