Spoilers:

She cheated death as young

Death wanted her back and tried to manipulate her husband into killing her.

Her husband fought it and tried to trick death by building the same house and by sacrificing similar-looking individuals.

In the end, her husband committed suicide to prevent Death from using him as his vessel.

Death still wanted her, and so he took matters into his own hands and tried to get to her through her grief and dreams.

In the end, she realized what Deaths’s game was and cheated him once again.
