Superb film.

- Fantastic acting, particularly from Rebecca Hall.
- Slick modern production qualities. The cinematography and editing were good.
- The story is interesting, so much better than most genre efforts.
- The atmosphere, scares and tension were done well. Scarier than most Horror films.

I do agree with some others that the ending does drop the ball a little bit. I've grew to like it a bit more on rewatches but it's one point where the film could have done better.

I prefer this over Hereditary for example which is a good film but has a bit of a goofy vibe and drops the ball with regards to the ending much more so than The Night House. I'd also take this film over the likes of Midsommar, Us, Halloween, Scream & The Invisible Man. A shame this film is a minor footnote whilst many other lesser films (in my opinion) were big hits.

This was very good. I did not care for Hereditary and was disappointed with US. But I thought Midsommar and The Invisible Man were terrific.

I don't think it is better than the mentioned films (is it the first Scream or the new one?)... But it is a solid film... I do prefer Hereditary, Midsommar, The Invisible Man... And I have a strange affection for Us even though it is far from a perfect film...

Indeed, this turned out far better than I had anticipated. Glad I finally got around to watching it. Great acting all about, excellent pacing, and built the horror quite effectively without being TOO slow burn or arthousey, while still being far more subtle than your typical mainstream horror film.
