just a niggling issue with a scene in EP2 (spoilers)

How they had to walk when their car wouldn't start when they could have had their pick of cars all around them to choose from.
Nothing major but it bugged me.

reply

Haven't seen the entire run of the series but I'm guessing all of the cars' electrical systems were fried by an electromagnetic pulse (EMP). One of the french soldiers inside the shelter mentioned that equipment inside the shelter was working but not outside. You can research the details of an emp online.

reply

As completely uninvolving as I find this series to be, I do agree. I think all the electrics were toasted.

reply

I'm just starting episode 4 and I have to agree - completely uninvolving.

reply

You're right, it was some kind of EMP. But there must have been something else as well because EMP doesn't kill people.

For a Science Fiction series this was not very scientific, I'll grant you that.

reply

But EMP's do not kill people. So this was something different that killed people ... and ruined their cars as well. Weird show, but I find it interesting. Not crazy about that last scene.

Oops. I already said this. ;-)

NIGGLING?

reply

Causing slight but persistent annoyance, discomfort or anxiety.

reply

You racist! Sure some may be like that, but that applies to all races.

reply

You have confused a perfectly innocent word which has absolutely nothing to do with race. The word you are thinking of is an adverb connected to the "N" word. If you conduct a search of the "N" word that adverb should come up. you'll note that the dictionary definition that I posted fits in perfectly with the remark that "aristide" posted at the top of the page. His posting had nothing to do with race any more than mine did.

reply

Or perhaps my post was entirely satirical and was mocking the tendency of some to erroneously cry racism at the drop of a hat similar to the situation from a few years back where a college professor was fired when he used the term niggardly to a black person. Even though the word means stingy and has no connection to anyone's ethnicity, the teacher was still dismissed.

reply

I did consider the possibility of sarcastic humor on your part and should have mentioned it in my post but as you noted being unfairly accused of racism is an unpleasant experience and I was concerned that others would leap in.

reply

He was not a very smart professor if he did not have the brains to figure out that choosing the use the obsolete word "niggardly" would not cause an issue - he should have been fired.

reply

One of those common terms in the UK, that doesn't work well a lot of other places.

reply

Always laugh when I hear English sports announcers using this term. Oh so close to being THAT word.....

reply

You are getting confused with the word for "Grudging and petty in giving or spending".

But seriously:

You know, it's that feeling you get at the base of your neck when you're about to be robbed by a PoC.

reply

Oh no you dit-int!
