bomb

how empty was your theater?

reply

THIS DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THE KIND OF FILM THAT THE TERM BOMB APPLIES TO.

reply

Why not? It's a high profile move

STARRING...BIG EYES AND NOBODY OF CONSEQUENCE...

HOW IS IT A HIGH PROFILE MOVIE?

reply

It's not a small indie movie. It has a rising star (did you even hear of the Queen's Gambit) and a director with a big following (do you even know Wright?). There's been a lot of hype since it was delayed and premiered at festivals.

reply

ARTHOUSE-ESQUE...EVEN WITH WRIGHT ATTACHED THIS WAS EVER MEANT TO BE A MONEY SUCKING HIT.

AND IN A WORD OF NO SURE THING STARS ANYMORE...UP AND COMING BIGEYES MEANS DICK ALL.

reply

Opened at 3,016 theaters according to Deadline. That's not arthouse by any means.

reply

ESQUE...THE STORY,THE CAST,THE POSTER...NOTHING ABOUT THIS FILM SAYS MONEY MAKING THEATER FILLER.

reply

“ STARRING...BIG EYES AND NOBODY OF CONSEQUENCE...”

As a Matt Smith fan, I’ll pretend you didn’t say that 😏

reply

WTF IS A MATT SMITH?🤔

reply

he played charles manson in the surprisingly pretty good 'charlie says!'

it's worth a look. it's a surprising film that focuses mostly on charlie's girls, and does so in a very sympathetic, even thoughtful way.

streaming on netflix in the us.

Only the best Doctor Who since the series was revived in 2005!

But you’re Amurican so you get a pass I suppose.

reply

I AM INTRIGUED WITH THIS DOCTOR WHO GUY...BUT AS STATED I AM AMERICAN...AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY...SO THE MOUNTAIN OF DOCTOR WHO MATERIAL IS DAUNTING.

reply

Sorry, I'd pick Eccleston over Smith.

reply

Don’t be sorry, most people would pick Tennant over both of them!

Generally I liked Eccleston’s stories better but Matt’s the man for me in terms of actors who embodied the alien nature of the character and who had shades of all the classic series Doctors in his performance.

reply

I'm a #4 girl myself, as that's who I grew up watching. I adore Tennant, and my favourite episode is Blink, but I hated the romance with Rose, so I prefer 11 over 10, but 9 was quirky and I wanted more of him, so he edges them both out for me.

reply

Only the best Doctor Who since the series was revived in 2005!

Agreed! (Jon Pertwee is my #1)

reply

WTF IS A MATT SMITH?🤔

Why, a crafter of small rugs, of course!

reply

3000 theaters, big release

reply

I GET IT...IT GOT A BIG RELEASE...DUE TO WRIGHT I IMAGINE...ALL I MEAN IS THE FILM ITSELF SEEMS LIKE A SMALL ARTHOUSE CROWD TYPE FILM...I WOULD NEVER IMAGINE IT BEING A "HIT"...SO THE TERM "BOMB" SEEMS ODD WHEN APPLID TO THIS PARTICULAR FILM....JUST MY OPINION.

reply

Yep, was getting a lot of buzz as well and tracking predicted it’s opening weekend to be $8 million which would at least get it into 3rd place behind Dune and Halloween Kills.

Instead it made about half of what was predicted and didn’t even get in the top 5 so it definitely underperformed.

Seems a mid-late November release would have been better going up against Eternals and Ghostbusters rather than compete with Dune, Halloween, Bond and Venom, it’s been a busy month.

reply

Estimated $43 million budget and made $4.2 million in it's opening weekend.

Yep, it's a flop.

reply

Get woke, go broke.

reply

baby driver had a smaller budget and made over $200m worldwide.

i'm not sure where this has opened worldwide - i can't figure out anything on box office mojo anymore - but it's underperforming, safe to say.

reply

Who goes to the theater anymore? Death traps with $10 popcorn... Besides, the movie will become generally available tomorrow.
