Was anyone upset that (spoilers)

Cassie died? I was really hoping to see her either castrate or carve Nina's name onto him. That I would have liked to have seen her live to see her vengeance served.

reply

Yes, I was upset too. I really wanted to see what he was going to do to him at the end. Very shocked that he ends up killing her. But the fact that she eventually got the last laugh at the end was nice.

Imagine if she did decide to castrate him. That would have been nice and satisfying to see.

I'm wondering if she didn't plan it that way, the way it happened. Look at the letter she sent, the texts. She, at least, planned for this possibility. And what if she had succeeded in castrating him? We she get away with it? Her career was shot, her best friend was dead and her boyfriend a creep. What did she have to live for?

reply

I think I read in an interview with the director that it wasn't a suicide mission. That maybe she thought there was a chance she would come out of this alive but also knew the chances of not which is why she had things planned out.

reply

Yes. Al is going to lawyer up, claim self defense and get away with it. We are not sure if Nina or Cassie get justice in the end. Very depressing ending.

reply

Especially when he could say it was self-defense.

However...the tape will be part of discover and go into evidence - finding it's way into the public record. Conviction or not - anyone who is on that tape is toast, regardless of whether they actively participated in the crime and got away with it (Al.), and Ryan is definitely screwed.

They may escape legal issues - but that tape is going to get out once charges drop.

reply

His life is ruined anyway even if he "gets away with it". He killed someone and burned the body on his bachelor party.

reply

The ending was awful. Yes she had the last word, but to give her life over for that was not the way

reply

But it was a perfect underscore of the whole movie in that, given the toxic male bro culture that exists...the very real possibility of a woman getting raped and murdered in this culture isn't out of the question under the right circumstances, as sick as it sounds.

reply

Oh I agree with you on that. She kept putting herself in that position time and time again, that the odds were against her.

reply

Just imagine how many toxic "bros" run this country and American companies. It's scary when you think about it.

reply

I caught this on HBO with 45mins left and I'm glad I didn't watch it from the beginning because the scene where she was murdered upset me so much.

Edited to say I just finished it right now...the ending is pretty satisfying...her death actually makes the movie better now.

reply

Yeah - I am rarely Team Main Character Death, but it was the only thing left for her: She knew she wasn't getting past it. She also knew that, unless that tape got out what happened to Nina would stay a secret, and so, kill too birds with one stone.
