Women's perspectives and stories deserve to be told in movies.

The movie is about the stories of many young women who get traumatized by rapists and are not believed or remembered by anyone, while the rapists live in total impunity. Getting this kind of stories in movies helps to give visibility to this problematic.

If this is offensive for men, maybe they should stop being like this or they should get mad at the men who are like this not at the movie makers nor at the feminists.

Men always get so defensive when their behaviour or the behaviour of many men get called out and portrayed in movies

reply

I haven't seen it.

People aren't saying they hate stories from a woman's point of view.

NO.

They are saying that they hate WOKE GARBAGE!

There is a huge HUGE difference. I hope you have the intelligence to differentiate the two.

Happy 2021!

reply

nah there isnt,
all you anti-woke patriots see any women or colored people on the screen and instantly declare it woke garbage

reply

Hit the nail on the head here.....

reply

This film is not woke and it is not garbage.

reply

Well, let's assume for a moment that these movies are really about giving visibility to rape stories.

In US, every three rapes, one is perpetrated by a caucasian white, one by a Hispanic, one by a black. The is approximately the statistics right now.

If Hollywood was about giving visibility to rape stories, we could expect that the rapists having a similar distribution, 1/3rd blacks, 1/3rd Hispanics and 1/3rd americans. Instead of it, what we have is that 99% of rapists according to Hollywood are Caucasian whites. What a surprise, huh?

Of course, this movie is no exception.

It seems Hollywood is not interested in "giving visibility" to 2/3rd of rapes that are perpetrated by the usual sacrosanct ethnic groups, and neither are you.

This is not really about rape. That's only a excuse. This is the usual demonization of European and North-American white males in modern western media.

you speak obvious and well documented truth. but the OP has their agenda that makes them feel like they are making BIG CHANGES in the world, and patting self on back, to sleep better at night. More power to them. :)

reply

"we could expect that the rapists having a similar distribution"
surely you're not wanting the scriptwriter to to alter the story to meet quotas?
Isnt that against the very core of your anti woke warrior being?

If they in compton they be black,
if they in san fran they be white

reply

That's why I didn't say anything about quotas. You did.

What I said is that when a movie portrays reality in a distorted way, we can find some logical explanation.

That doesn't that this explanation is an agenda. For example: a Christian movie portrays Christian people. The explanation is simple: it's a movie aimed to Christian people, who are interested in stories of Christian people.

Now, if some Christian movies decide to include Atheist characters... and they're systematically portrayed as psychopaths filled with hated, well, here the most reasonable explanation it's an political/religious agenda against Atheists (unless you have a better one).

The same with modern Hollywood: if movies include different racial cast, but when it comes to rapist, they happen to be systematically Caucasian whites, then the most reasonable explanation it's an political/religious agenda against whites (unless you have a better one).

You said you wanted the color distribution of the repists to represent the natianal proportions of color distribution
That means you wanted "1/3rd blacks, 1/3rd Hispanics and 1/3rd americans"
Sounds like a quota to me

I'd say its more likey down to the locality the film is set at.
If they in compton they be black,

Compare this with what I literally said 🤔:

"If Hollywood was about giving visibility to rape stories, we could expect that the rapists having a similar distribution [to rape according to US statistics], 1/3rd blacks, 1/3rd Hispanics and 1/3rd americans".

All rape statistics are going to be skewed as rapes are the most underreported crime. This movie has exactly one rape in it. It was the inciting incident for the story. This particular rape happens in college, which according to a 2014 study of college campus rape statistics by the BJS found that 63% of reported rapes against females aged 18 to 24 are done by white males, 19% are done by black males and 10% are done by another race and 8% are unknown. So this movie has an accurate depiction in that regard.

Here’s another statistic, a rapist on average has 5 victims over his lifetime. So realistically she should have shown the one white rapist committing several rapes over his lifetime. Or we could consider that 1 in 6 women report to have been rape or attempted in their lifetime. This movie has more than 6 women in, so realistically it should show more of them being raped. But this is a 2 hour drama, not a snuff film.

Lastly, your stat about “99% of rapes depicted by Hollywood are committed by caucasians” is just BS that you made up.

Let's remember that Hispanics are counted under "white" in US statistics. In general, the number of crimes committed by Hispanics is similar to the one committed by white American, so we can approximate and split that 63% in two same-size groups: Hispanics and white Americans.

In a nutshell, according to that 2014 statistics, every 9 rapes, 3 are perpetrated by Hispanics, 3 by whites¹, 2 by blacks and 1 by asians.

So the movie is accurate in that regard? If you say so... 😄😄😄😄😄😄

¹Here with "white" I mean non-Hispanic whites.

Not a fair assumption on your part. Hispanics are separate in crime stats. And like I said there’s one rape in the film so without a larger sample size it’s still a realistic depiction unless you want a snuff film.

...But please source your 99% of rapes Hollywood depicts are by caucasians

here's another TRUTH PILL for you:

maybe these, and many other women's movies simply aren't all that entertaining. Even to women.

Over and over and again, OVER AGAIN, I see ANY women films come out, not get the "support" someone out there thinks they should, and starts crying over it.

Then, you look at the numbers, and THE WOMEN DIDN'T SUPPORT IT ...IE go in droves, multiple times, to be heard as a valid numerical representation in the box office numbers.
Then comes the blaming: "WELL MEN DIDN'T SUPPORT IT!! WE BLAME MEN!!"
In every instance of that - EVERY INSTANCE - I have checked out the movie, and it was mostly garbage. IE Does not appeal to me, a man. I'm not gonna lie and support a shitty movie, just to SUPPORT women. I also don't support shitty MEN movies.

Next, the FACTS about Women movies, and Men movies.... they don't appeal to the other sex as much, and never will. This is the simplest, most ignored fact about the universe that the feminazis turn away from.

Majority of viewers, reviewers for YA YA SISTERHOOD OF TRAVELING PANTS, were woman. Men are not interested in "Women"s cinema, nor should they be.
Majority of viewers, reviewers for THE EXPENDABLES, were men. Woman are not interested in "Men"s cinema, nor should they be.

The sexes ARE different, this is never going to change, been this way since the dawn of man, and no legislation can ever change this.

This is simply how it is.

This film was very entertaining, got great reviews, and is likely to get nominated for several awards. Lots of people, men and women, are interested in stories about women, by women, and from women's perspectives. I would much rather watch a film about a woman then about a man.

reply

This isnt a "womans movie"
Its a basic "revenge story" movie in which the protagonist happens to be a woman

and the bad guys, are guys
i dont know why but this seems to have really upset a lot of people.
The bad guys are guys in most films so it cant be that.
must be the woman good guy bit .
still dont see the issue though.
Was it a problem for that "I spit on your grave film?"

reply

the box office receipts will tell you if women's perspectives and stories DESERVE to be told in movies.

if it ends up everyone cares to watch them, there's your answer.
if it ends up no one cares to watch them, there's your answer.

what have you seen in box offices so far? plain truth is more realistic than wishing.

reply

If the only criteria to tell if a movie is good or deserve to be made is box office, then moviemakers should always do superhero movies and no much more.

reply

if no one wants to watch their movies, probably should not make them. what, for a hollywood finances write off tax dodge?

how would you measure a films "success"? RATINGS? (cough WW84 cough)

reply

And from time to time, they were. (Any of the I Spit on Your Grave movies, Baise Moi, Ms .45, Thelma and Louise, many classics and modern ones.)
