Incels love trashing a movie they won’t even watch

It was entertaining, well paced, funny, dark, thought provoking. My biggest criticism is that Bo Burnham didn’t looked younger than the characters he went to school with.

Maybe stop using derogatory terms like incel. It's hard to take you seriously otherwise.

But yeah, the movie was great. I enjoy it very much.

It’s only derogatory if you think of it that way. It’s origin and most of its use was by those who self-identified as one. The first online community to use the term "incel" was started in 1993 when a Canadian university student known only by her first name, Alana, created a website in order to discuss her sexual inactivity with others. The website, titled "Alana's Involuntary Celibacy Project", was used by people of all genders to share their thoughts and experiences. It’s meaning has shifted to mostly straight sexually frustrated men gathered in other online forums like Reddit, 4chan over the years.

Maybe just ignore them? On second thought...

I'm from Indonesia, and I can sympathize with Edinson Cavani. In my country, we said "Nergro" to indicate the race, while calling somebody "black" is actually very insulting.

So what do you think when I met an African-American and call him a "negro"? Should they not be offended? Should I explain to them how the root of the word is not actually offensive? And because of how "I" do not consider the word offensive, they shouldn't be offended.

Of course not. Etymology doesn't matter; cultural background also doesn't matter. The only thing matter is the context and intent of the speaker. In this case, you are clearly using the word as an insult.

reply

Yeah. There seems to be an overlap between angry incels and the local Alt Reich crowd, among those here with kneejerk negative reactions towards this movie.

reply

So disliking this movie automatically makes someone alt-right?

reply

The reality is using the term incel is as meaningful as calling someone racist or homophobo simply because you don't agree with what their opinion is.

Simple fact is the movie has some problems. I had no problem with the premise, was actually disappointed that the main character didn't follow through and take out her early targets, or really set up the dean's daughter to be raped... I mean given the lengths she goes to in the end, why is she acting so forgiving to begin with? I just didn't set her up as being as crazed for revenge as she was in the end.

Though the ending of the movie is where it really just ignores reality. I could accept all the lengths that she went to get get the final revenge, but even accepting that there was some evidence on that phone that was going to prove the target raped someone, the police wouldn't have shown up so quickly to arrest him for murder. Could she have somehow set up the murder rap? Yes, but it would have required a lot more time for that to happen, I mean there are all sorts of things that would have been required before an arrest warrant would have been issued and it would happen in a matter of hours.

reply

No. Just observing that in general there is often an ideological overlap between those I see voicing "incel"/MGTOW & Alt Reich stlye grievances. The usual suspects on this forum just make it even easier to see the connection because you're very repetitive.

reply

I could just call you a dumbass if you prefer.

reply

Oh, are you an expert on incels? Maybe you could tell us what the heck they ever are?

reply

But the movie isn't good at all - I don't care about my standing on social media so I can say this safely.

It's not even close to being the best r revenge movie anyway.

reply

How about we just ignore them (those incels)? Or does ignoring any problem, even them, doesn't make them go away?
