The mind of Billy McFarland

He was a fraudster, yes, but it looks like he didn't steal most of the money for himself, transferring it to some offshore bank account or anything. In the end he ended upliving in his parents basement, like a 22 year old who recently graduated college with a sociology degree and 50k of debt. He lived large while this was going on but the rest of the money ended up going elsewhere, I guess.

I got the impression he's a brilliant salesman and hugely ambitious but totally lacking any sort of sense and maybe had a little bit of a screw loose. He never seemed to give any thought to basics of his business. Debits and credits. How much will it cost to do everything I'm claiming with with this music festival? How much do they need to charge to cover it? He just seemed to assume he'd be able to figure something out and would deal with the problems as they came along. No long term thinking at all. Need money? Time to hit up another invenster.

But he did actually try to go through with the Festival and even showed up himself. It was like he never expected the disaster to come even though everyone around him did and some tried to warn him. Total magical thinking. And it looks like he ended up broke.
