I do wonder what the point of the episode was, though? To demonstrate that police can be assholes, too?..

And even being a woman I still hate the fact that we are living in this culture where anyone can just claim anything, and society /authorities will just assume it's true.

And why on earth did his lawyer cry?? I don't understand why write something like that into the episode and then never explain it.

What I took away from the episode was here you have a real arrogant jerk that turns out to be innocent and how everyone felt he was guilty, even his attorney. I wonder if her response was related to how he avoided the charge while she thought he was guilty. I also wonder if the writers/producers purposely picked a charismatic and likable actor by reputation/image, causing the viewer to struggle with his or her attitude toward the likable actor while the role demands the actor to be dislikable.

What I took away from the police role was how the main character was right and how the detective was not going to apologize for doing his job, especially since he thought Harrington was guilty - and if I recall correctly, up to this point he didn't know the reason why no charges were being pressed, as with Harrington's attorney.

It's one of those things that's left up to the viewer's interpretation.
I figured the Lawyer was assuming he was guilty, but she had to do her job no matter what.

This is the episode that killed this show for me. Four previous episodes liking these characters, admiring the work they do, and then when it's discovered that Alex has been falsely excused of rape by a scam artist, the cops suddenly turn into despicable sociopaths, especially DI Tony Myerscough. The only episode I'd want to see after this one would be the one where Alex sues the department and Myerscough back to the fucking stone age.
