Do I need

to see the original first?

reply

Honestly no, even though it builds heavily off of it.

reply

I'd say it helps, but it isn't necessary.

They do offer an explanation as to what happened in the first film that affects this one, but at the same time you're only sort of told one side of the story. You'll know everything you need to know to be able to follow this movie, but you may enjoy it more having seen the original.

reply

i agree with this.

it's not necessary, but it will add a bit of coloring to some of the stuff in the film.

& it's pretty good, so it's not like it's some miserable chore you have to get through.

it's streaming on peacock, or at least it was the last time i looked.

I just realized that there exists a franchise of many Candyman sequels. Are there things that connect to all of them? I'm not usually one for horror if I think it's just ripping off some other movie. I never watched Candyman b/c I thought it was just a Freddy Krueger-ish knock off.

reply

To be honest, I've not seen any of the other sequels.

I only just rewatched the original for the first time in more than twenty years.

reply

Definitely don't need to watch 2 or 3, but I would watch the first.

reply

No, you don't need to, but the original is definitely worth watching.

reply

Its worth a watch regardless of whether you see this film or not. Its a good film and Tony Todd is fantastic as Candyman.

reply

This. Candyman 2 was poor, and 3 was terrible. But the first is really good.

reply

If you're interested in seeing the original, it's playing on the Peacock app for free.
