Has Anyone Seen This?

If so, what do you think?

there's a rich programmer dude with white hair named LeBlanc..
that's all you gotta know about the quality of this program.

I didn't mind it, i will tune in for the next episode

Thank you for your reply. Consumer acceptance and use of AI interests me greatly.

I see this as a TV series but it is more of a warning about how technology is getting out of control and is destroying any sort of privacy in our lives.
The recent remake of the movie Child's Play was a similar idea of how AI can "take over" our lives. The concept of this is quite similar.
I am already addicted to NEXT. Admittedly it taps into concerns i have about such things as Alexa and Siri
I will be interested to see where this series take us.

We should be terrified of technology and the global reaction to the revelations brought forth by Ed Snowden should've been far louder.

I've often wished we could just get rid of the Internet or at least pare it down to something far more manageable and less intrusive.

If you’re not already familiar with it, do a search on Ransomeware, and consider how many smart homes and smart cars we already have, and how those 2 consumer categories are going to proliferate and become even smarter in the future. Imagine Skynet hijacked by extortionists and/or terrorists and/or Sakawa Boys. I believe we’re handing too much power to the machines. Thank you for your reply.

Even those of us who shun intrusive technology are being FORCED into it.
"Smart Meters" are being forcibly installed on our homes. Supposedly it not legal to do that but it hasnt stopped them.
Smart meters have the capability of interfacing with smart devices in our home. Things such as smart tv, smart thermostats nad just about anything with smart in their name. It may also interface with things that dont have smart in their name.
Hve you ever considered why EVERY electrical device in our homes now has a microchip in it when such a device has always been able to run without one. A smart meter can track many of these devices and in some case interface with them.
The power companies promise that they wont do it but can we trust a company who forced us to have the meter in the first place?
The power company can shut off my power remotely. I have had gross billing errors which couod easily trigger a shutoff, even though my bill is paid.
This stuff is scary. It would be easy to see how a rogue AI could disable our power at the meter.
I already have a smart water meter on the house. It cant shut off my wate remotely but it is strangely invasive. I monitors my water usage in REAL TIME.
That means that it pretty much can figure out when I flush a toilet, when I wash clothes, when I take a shower etc. Why would a water utility need such precision as this. We are billed by MONTHLY usage, not minute by minute. It can pretty much tell when someone is home and what they are doing.
This stuff is just the tip of the iceberg.
Please read my post marked "commentary" as to how fox has essentially censured this show and has not given us the show in its entirety.
Why would a network do such a thing.
That is a question that needs to be answered.

I just watched the first episode. It wasn't bad and was at least better than the typical network fare. If the trailer interested you I'd say at least give it a few episodes.

Me too. Just last night watched 1st ep. It was OK. Some aspects were very creepy and well done. I'll watch another.

BTW OP, watch Person of Interest for similar content. This show feels like a prequel to it.

OK. Half way through the season. It is 6/10 at best (feels generous). It is fast paced, engaging, and mostly well acted. I kept getting this familiar feeling from it. I saw the name Manny Coto as writer and producer and that was very familiar. Kept meaning to look the name up. After this last episode, I knew what was gnawing at me. the show plays out very much like "24." So I looked up Manny, knowing what I'd find, and sure enough, he is the guy behind 24.

So if you liked the first four seasons of 24 (the ones Coto did) then you will probably like this. It has the exact same blend of great/stupid that is found in seasons one and two of 24. I watch it down my nose but I admit to enjoying it.

Thank you for that. You’ve saved me a lot of time!

Good show. It hits on the danger of superhuman artificial intelligence. The AI is so powerful, the show constrains it to a single server rack. A real AI would quickly make backup copies and distribute them globally as soon as it got on the internet. For a superhuman AI it wasn't all that smart either, making obvious moves while it was still vulnerable. I guess they had to give the humans a chance though.

The characters were dumb too, calling each other on burner phones when the AI can monitor all communications. It may not know where they are but it can figure out what they're up to.

reply

Except the AI needed time to get smarter/evolve + better hardware/servers to run on.
