Gawain

Gawain was a dumb ass. He knew whatever he did he would get in return, yet he cut the knight's head off. What did he expect?

A Christmas party where someone suggests a game, and I've had too much to drink, and I don't really understand the rules, but I muddle into it anyway, only to realize I've made a pudding of the whole thing? I can relate to Gawain.

reply

To be fair, he likely wasn’t expecting the guy to live without a head.

He altered that woman's voice and set stuff on fire.

Anyway what was with that old woman later who never spoke and always wore a blindfold?

reply

Lady Justice?

Beats me?

The guy was obviously not a normal being and magic did not surprise anyone. Hearing the rules it would be super simple to pass this without dying in a years time. The set up completely puts the movie on the back foot from the start because the main character is being shown as well being incredibly dumb. By focusing on being all artsy it loses any real motivation for a compelling story because why root for someone who easily could have avoided their fate.

It's a really silly movie with a really, really, REALLY stupid setup.

There is according to Wikipedia a very old poem about it. But what happens in the poem is somewhat different (a lot different) from the movie.

But that's set up with the opening narration that says this is not "that tale", and then reinforced later when the lady of the castle talks about altering stories if she wants to "improve" them. It wasn't trying to go beat-for-beat with the original poem.
