What's up with the overhype by the critics?!?!

I don't hate the show. Not blown away either. I was definitely underwhelmed by the first 2 episodes. But genuinely enjoyed the third episode. Things are definitely picking up & I'm really really intrigued by the mystery.

But the critics got an advance viewing of the first 3 episodes & the way they reviewed them made seem like it's this AMAZING, brilliant piece of television that should be celebrated.

Am I missing something? Is it me?!?!

i think you're not really accurately representing the critical response.

the metacritic score is 76, and the average critic rating on rotten tomatoes is 7.84.

those are both good, solid ratings, but they're not the kind of scores that suggest critics were ululating uncontrollably in their praise.

it's true the show has a 95% rating on rt, but that shows again imo that the tomato-meter rating really doesn't give the best indication of how critics feel about a movie.

you can have a lot of critics who think a show or film is just fine, will give it a nice solid but not rapturous rating, and that will translate into a rt score in the mid 90s. that shouldn't be used to suggest critics think the film/show is a+ material.

i really enjoy the show myself, and am very interested to see where it will go.

Well, and from your next sentence you do know this, but I just think people should be better informed of what the RT score indicates.

The Imdb episode ratings so far are 7.5, 8.0, 8.6 so viewers think it's getting better too.

I bet the critics based their score on the third. Note that the public rates higher than critics, as usual for CBM shows.

reply

No. Hollywood is really struggling right now and they won't shit on anything that might get at least some traction with viewers.

I agree, I seem to see the youtube folks really happy with this show. (New Rockstars, Emergency Awesome etc...)

For me the show so far is just ok and I await all this wow that I havent seen yet. Ep 3 was better but nothing too exciting.

Maybe it's better for american audiences who get the member berries for the period era nostalgia also.

reply

That was one of my thoughts too. About the nostalgia, I mean. The sitcoms that they're homaging & stuff were way way before my time. So, I don't really have an appreciation for them.

Also, I'm not really a huge sitcom person in the first place.

TV Critics are even more useless than Film Critics. I mean all the CW Super Shows have like 80% to 90% on RT. And all those shows are horribly written and the acting isn't much better. This show so far is better than that. But its not exactly the Citizen Kane of TV Show Either.
