By that logic Just Fontaine is the greatest striker in history.
Fortunately, that isn't how this works.

Your point was inane. I was demonstrating its inanity.

It wasn't, it's a valid point.
These comparisons are comparing totally different realities, so any conclusion taken from those stats needs to be put in perspective.
When Platini scored those goals there were also less teams in the competition, which means only the best teams were there. Which means Platini didn't score his goals against Hungary level teams, he scored against the best.
But didn't score as many against the easier teams in 82 and 86?
🤔🤔🤔🤔
Platini also played against smokers who drank four pints before kick off.
Like I said: inane.
I don't understand what you are trying to communicate by saying "didn't score as many against the easier teams in 82 and 86". Are we talking about the goals scored in Euros or are we talking about games played outside of Euros?
Platini scored a goal in every single Euro match he played. And the teams in the Euros at the time were the top 8 teams in Europe, not the top 24 teams of Europe like we have now, which includes teams like Hungary and North Macedonia.
Ronaldo also scored 0 goals against Iceland and Austria - both mediocre teams - in 2016, for example.
What you seem to not understand is that if you play 22 games (like Ronaldo) you are most likely to score goals than if you play 5 (like Platini), so comparing the goals scored like this is just a piece of trivia, not an absolute measure of quality.
Even if you are talking about the World Cup goals now, Platini did score goals in 82 and 86.
If I'm correct, Platini scored 2 goals in 82, then another 2 in 86.
While Ronaldo, scored 1 goal in 2006, then scored 1 in 2010, then scored 1 in 2014, then scored 4 in 2018.
So it took 4 tournaments for Ronaldo to overcome what Platini did in 2. I'm going to even ignore the fact that Ronaldo scored against Iran, North Korea, Ghana, and then (finally against a good team) against Spain.
While Platini scored against Germany, Italy, Brazil.
All in all, comparing what cannot be compared. Different realities.

Come second in the group and your in the quarter finals.
Yeah, much harder. 🙄

Now do the top level of club football for a twenty year period.
Then wobble your head.
Lol what a petty post,.why do people get so butthurt when Ronaldo breaks a record?
share[deleted]
Why? It's the record for most goals, not best goal ratio.
Literally the total number of goals and that's it. Trying to discredit him is ludicrous.
I agree. People always trying to discredit CR7. The man is 36 years old and playing his 5th Euro Tournament. If longevity was so easy, literally everyone would be doing it.
