No, the show's original so-called Prime timeline is where the destruction of Romulus by a nearby supernova happened. Ambassador Spock was vaporized in the explosion while trying a long shot scheme to stop it (or so it seems) and he's never seen again in this timeline. For some reason they refer to the JJ Abrams reality as the Kelvin timeline, not sure why. Spock ends up there and the original world of Star Trek goes on without him.
Being able to travel faster than light, they get a rescue armada to Romulus after the star explodes but ahead of the planet's death and take off as many refugees as they can. This has something to do with why Picard was drummed out of starfleet, or resigned. He apparently mounted that effort against orders.
