S03E01 "The Next Generation" Discussion

(NO SPOILERS)

A lot going on, especially since I didn't watch Season 2. But, certainly a fair amount of good stuff.

Definitely have to give compliments to those working on the show for:

1.) Incorporating Jerry Goldsmith's great music into the score, as well as giving nods to both Alexander Courage's music from the original series and James Horner's music from the second and third movies.

2.) Also, the starship porn over the End Titles with loving close ups of the screens of the starship's instruments was much appreciated!

Famous Youtubers like Robert Myer Burnett and Gary Nerdrotic have been praising this episode saying "Star Trek is back", so I watched it. This episode is painful newby BS like every other "Picard" episode.

I don't think it's as awful as the last two seasons, or Discovery as a whole. The music was a high point, even if it was fan-service. They're continuing with the horrible set lighting - everything super dark except for the blinding/glaring instruments. And, I could do without the unnecessary swearing. Foul language has no place in Star Trek.

One reviewer commented: "Star Trek: Picard" now has its "Rise of Skywalker." I can see that.

I don't care about the characters. I always found "The Next Generation" to be a definite step down from the original series. But, the music and the starship porn are beautiful, so there's that.

reply

ST:TNG is the best TV show that was ever made so there's that.

reply

One episode in and so far so good. Good use of the music. Hard to believe its been like 21 years since the TNG crew was together, more to come and hopefully it stays better than the previous seasons.

reply

It was good. But so was the first episode of season 2.

Then we got more horseshit.

reply

My thoughts exactly! Still, I am cautiously optimistic about season 3.

The lighting is killing it for me. Nothing screams "Ooh, take us seriously," like lighting a starship interior like a terrible bar. Call me crazy, I like to see what's going on. Are there no lightbulbs in space?

reply

Yeah, the bad lighting looks really awful and unprofessional. Fans need to mail light bulbs to Paramount, maybe they'll get the message. LOL!
