The picture accompanying this forum looks a lot like the Los Angeles freeway system, but even more grim. Not the Earth of Start Trek I have been accustomed to for the past fifty-five years.

The original Roddenberry franchise was an idealistic feeling-good scifi group of shows about an idyllic future, and the utopian earth was part of it. Some people liked it, some people didn't. It was a XXth century retake of the romantic pastoral genre mixed with some tv drama and space opera. I loved it, not everything needs to be depressing.

New Woke shows are mostly about evil white males vs poor non-white/female victims, with the occasional white knight siding with the poor oppressed non-white/females. That clashes with the romantic idyllic view of Roddenberry. The old and the new ST shows are light years apart. It's like two people speaking different languages. Trying to interpret the old ones according to what the new ones say just doesn't make any sense.
