One of the characters in (I think) episode 1 says it. And in episode 2 we hear the f-bomb dropped three times. They're definitely not in the same universe are they.

As if folks would be saying "dude" and dropping f-bombs in the distant future, just like they're still saying "Later, alligator!" and using "dashed" as an expletive, right?

Nope. This is the new Star Trek verse, from JJ and Discovery. It's why I don't care what they do. It's just a possible timeline. Star Trek has dealt with many realities over the years. This is one of them. I take it as such.
