Dani’s family was murdered

I think Dani’s family was not killed by a suicide incident, but was rather murdered by someone who staged it as a suicide. The sister’s body appears to have been beaten and forced into that position, and the pipe being taped to her face is bizarre since most people suffocating themselves wouldn’t tape it they were it was on her face. I think Pele was behind it as a way to kickstart all the events in the movie.

I dont think so.
These people arent murderers .. they punish and sacrifice - but they dont just kill people

reply

Well they are murderers, evidently, but I agree that they aren't outside of the realm of their little community.

reply

Killing someone because they want to leave (the British couple) is murder.

Found the pagan cultist

found the christian retard who believe in an imaginary figure that was created by roman emperor vaspesian

lolwut I'm agnostic

reply

That's an interesting idea. But I don't think it was the case. Accidents happen. It makes Pelle's attempts at empathy (however twisted in the scheme of things) more genuine.

reply

You can’t trust those damn soccer superstars!

reply

I thought the same thing, but the other side of the argument is pretty convincing also. I just don't know what lengths Pelle would take to get Dani to go on the trip.

reply

I always took that scene as the sister killing the parents while committing suicide.

reply

Disagree. I think that goes a bit beyond the cult's scope. And the sister knew she'd lose muscle control and want to keep the pipe there. I think it's more there to make Dani put blame on Christian. Because if she'd not called him that night and been calmed down by them, she might've gone to her parents' house and arrived in time to save everyone. But we got little background on Dani. She's also talking to another friend on the phone at the beginning, who never gets a name or mentioned again. But it seems to show there's at least one other person left out there who care about her and might look for her. SEQUEL! :-P

reply

Agreed on all counts! Great comment!

reply

Wow, great theory! Even though it's unconfirmed by the director and everyone involved, it seems plausible.

reply

I heard that Aster has stated that Pelle did not kill the sis.

reply

You bolded the wrong word - LOL
Should have bolded NOT
Thx for the importent info/context tho.

Was going to post the same thing just now after watching it. Although it seems far fetched it serves the purpose of keeping Dani and christian together until the trip (Pele is aware that christian is thinking of breaking up with Dani) and of course it follows that christian would then consider letting Dani come on the trip too (even if he was thinking of breaking up with her)

reply

I get where you are coming from, but I strongly disagree. Long before Pelle was in the picture, Dani's sister had a history of mental illness. It was an issue in the relationship. I really think that if Dani hadn't have come along, someone else in the cult would have brought someone.
