one of the most impactful, powerful, mesmerizing, meaningful, harrowing, experience films ever made and it's at just 7.2??? it should be at at the very least 9.0. i can count only around 20 films that have ever impacted me as much as this film. that's how rare great this film is. it's a masterpiece.

sharebut you know there's a right answer here. there is a right and wrong answer to is this a great film. it's technically provable this is a great film. this film has so much more great things in it than 99% of American films made in the last 20 years.
there are great films that are ordinary in their execution and qualities and merits and there are films like this film which defy explanation and classification because they have high artistic ambition and they deliver in every single way exceptional filmmaking. this is an experience film which 99% of Hollywood films of all time aren't.
I think it would be all but impossible to come to this judgement if you've seen The Wicker Man first.

shareMost highly acclaimed modern indie horror films have suprisingly low ratings. It Follows has a 6.8, The Witch has a 6.9, and Hereditary has a 7.2 as well. It’s strange because every other critical website lists these films with bery high ratings, but IMDb sugget theyre just average, maybe slightly above average but nothing special.

All kidding aside, it probably got passed up since it did not meet any agenda checks. There was no transgenderism preached, there was no SJW overtone, and there was no homosexual, transgender, or some other love scene that is all but required. Oh....they didn't bash Trump and hate on white people. That is what most likely kept them out of the awards.
7.2 is a very good rating. Not great. Very Good.

I think a lot of people dont have the patience for a slow movie that is based on atmosphere anymore and if it makes them feel uneasy they might rate it badly
But who cares - it shouldnt affect you that a lot of ppl cant see its beauty

It was a good film i suppose, i think peoples standards are quite low nowadays because 90 percent of films are cut and paste
If you have seen Rosmary's Baby and the Wicker man and films or that ilk then Midsommer looks like a decent film inspired by those but they did it better in my opinion, but if you are comparing it to the Conjuring and Paranormal Activity people probably think it's a Masterpiece
But if we are talking about low IMDB scores then Kill List has a 6.4 and that film is much better than Midsommer and every other Horror for that matter but i think that it was a bit to disturbing for most people and they can't handle it and are put off, but they miss the genius, same as Salo it's actually a very clever film but disregarded as shock porn
My new favourite Imdb score is between 6.2 and 6.7 for some reason they seem to be the best films just divisive enough to put off the tourists whilst not veering into atrocious
Back to Midsommer it was ok but don't get to carried away, the male characters were your typical horror douches and it had that Hollywood twang throughout, they kept doing that annoying thing when anyone brought up that this is fucking weird we should leave, they dismiss it and act blind(Hack) even it it is a cut above the rest of the crap nowaday's
6.9 is a fair score
