The problem with this movie ...

It isn't the story, or the writing, or even the script. It's the acting. The little girl is always pissed. Gemma has no emotions at all. All the acting is flat. Like they all didn't take the film seriously. If I was the aunt I probably would of locked that little shit in the closet. She was always mean to everyone.

Agreed. I do think the writing and direction go hand and hand with that though. It was all pretty bland.

It’s a shame because it could have been a fun concept (even though it’s basically just a modern day Child’s Play)

reply

That was what they were going with. If you watched the BTS you'd know they weren't taking this show as a serious horror show but a fun one.

reply

The acting in child's play wasn't that bad. Just calling out that the emotions of the actors wasn't very good.

reply

If you were the aunt you probably would have known how to spell.

reply

Well I'm not .. but what was misspelled?

reply

I think he meant it’s “would have”, not “would have”. That’s not a misspelling though, so, double negative or something, lol :)

reply

LOL. OK. Well I guess I'll have to bee more careful.

So you expected Cady, who tragically lost both parents and is in the care of a clueless aunt, to be giggly and upbeat? And a major plot point is that the aunt didn't know how to be a parent, so you expected the aunt to gush with love and empathy? Thank God you didn't direct the film. It would have been a critical and box office bomb.

No but it doesn't give her an excuse to be as disrespectful as she was.

reply

i agree.. Gemma appears to be more of a robot than M3Gs

didn't mind the little girl, she was in PTSD for the majority of this

reply

The little girl is always pissed:
She was ADICTED to M3gan, she was acting just like drug withdrawal, that's the message of the film, we are all becaming adicted to devices

Gemma has no emotions at all:
She has no material to be a mom, she was more racional than emotional, even she said "she's not my child"... at the beggining she was just using Cady to promote M3gan (and to see if it works)

reply

Drug addiction for sure. I even said that M3GAN is like crack to the little girl. It was over the top ridiculous

reply

The acting was very bad...still fun though...

The film did not take itself too seriously. It was a mix of tones from serious to absurd comedy and that might be one flaw. Not sure which end of the spectrum it wanted to be and tried to be both to appeal to wider audiences. It even had homage to Ex Machina. Definitely could have gone deeper on the serious end, but I think it went more the modern lowbrow "kickass" direction with shock value violence, gore and death.

Rather than kill the abusive boy, I'd have rather seen M3gan humiliate him and teach him a lesson and kind of rehabilitate him to being polite and kind to his mother and others, rather than what ended up happening. Same for destroying M3gan. Would have been better to try and outsmart her and make the touch choice to shut her off after displaying the dangers/dark side. I mean they could have locked her up til her batteries died and kept her away from a charger.

It was okay. It didn't suck.
